2nd Shift Operator (Press Helper)
This role supports the press operator in a busy printing facility during the 2nd shift. You will help set up, operate, and maintain printing presses, prepare materials, monitor production, and perform quality checks to ensure consistent, high-quality output. The position involves hands-on work with industrial equipment, close collaboration with a production team, and adherence to safety and quality standards in a climate-controlled manufacturing environment.
Responsibilities
- Assist in the setup of printing presses, including loading paper and adjusting machine settings according to job specifications.
- Prepare and load materials into the press during production runs and remove finished products from the press in an efficient and organized manner.
- Monitor press operations throughout the shift to ensure consistent print quality and promptly troubleshoot basic issues that arise during printing.
- Perform routine maintenance tasks on printing equipment, such as cleaning rollers, changing ink cartridges, and keeping machines in proper working condition.
- Conduct quality checks on printed materials to verify color accuracy, registration, and overall print quality, making adjustments or escalating issues as needed.
- Follow all safety protocols and guidelines to maintain a safe working environment for yourself and your colleagues, including proper handling of materials and equipment.
- Keep accurate records of production output, material usage, and any maintenance or repair activities performed during the shift.
- Assist in other areas of the printing facility as needed, including assembling and packaging finished products and preparing materials for shipment.
- Collaborate with team members and communicate clearly about production status, issues, and priorities to support smooth workflow across the shift.
Essential Skills
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Previous experience in a printing or manufacturing environment preferred.
- Basic mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills for operating and maintaining industrial equipment.
- Ability to lift and move heavy materials, up to 50 pounds.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work.
- Effective communication skills and the ability to work well as part of a production team.
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including nights and weekends, as needed.
- Knowledge of safety procedures and willingness to adhere to safety guidelines at all times.
- Ability to stand for extended periods during the shift.
- Good hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity for handling tools, materials, and equipment.
- Comfort with repetitive tasks and movements in a production environment.
- Ability to bend, stoop, and reach to perform various tasks around the press and workstations.
- Capability to work efficiently under physical demands for extended periods in a factory setting.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience in assembly, industrial production, or heat treat environments is beneficial.
- Ability to perform quality work within deadlines with or without direct supervision.
- Professional interpersonal skills to interact effectively with other employees, customers, and suppliers.
- Proven ability to contribute as a team member on all assignments.
- Ability to work independently while understanding the importance of communicating and coordinating work efforts with other employees and departments.
