The successful candidate will be responsible for pushing carts that weigh 100+ pounds consistently, as well as serving as a backup operator. The role involves operating industrial food processing equipment—batch cookers and retorts—in a regulated food production environment. The candidate must understand Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP), and standard operating procedures (SOPs). Duties include monitoring and documenting cooking parameters such as time, temperature, and pressure, troubleshooting mechanical or automated systems, and maintaining accurate batch records.

Experience with All‑Pax retort systems or similar equipment is preferred; knowledge of thermal processing and food sterilization is an advantage.

Education: High school diploma or GED required; equivalent work experience may be considered in lieu of formal education.

Experience / Qualifications
  • Good physical ability and endurance.
  • Experience operating industrial food processing equipment or similar machinery (retorts, cookers, kettles, etc.).
  • Experience in a USDA‑ or FDA‑regulated food facility.
  • Familiarity with GMPs and HACCP.
  • Ability to follow SOPs and safety protocols.
  • Basic troubleshooting skills and understanding of mechanical or digital controls.
  • Experience documenting batch records, cooking times, and temperatures.
  • Understanding of thermal processing and sterilization principles.
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Assist with starting up, shutting down, and changing recipes on the All‑Pax cooker computer.
  • Fill out all required paperwork and documentation neatly, accurately, and in a timely manner.
  • Verify pouch codes and inspect pouch integrity for proper seals.
  • Know and understand all critical parameters of the thermal process.
  • Keep the cooker area clean and orderly.
  • Perform loading and unloading of cooker carts.
  • Help with routine maintenance on cookers as required.
  • Perform the proper testing for initial temperature (IT) and pouch thickness.
  • Maintain a positive teamwork atmosphere through communication and assistance to co‑workers.
  • Perform any other duties assigned by the supervisor.
  • Food Safety: Every employee is responsible for food safety. Any issues should be reported immediately to the area supervisor or manager.

  • Keep accurate records.
  • Be alert to noises or conditions that may indicate a developing mechanical problem.
  • Communicate effectively with a variety of people.
  • Graduate of Better Process Schooling Certification.

    Work Schedule

    This position follows the shift timetable, with variations based on season and workload.

    Typical schedule:

    Monday through Friday and often Saturday. 12‑hour shifts may be required during busy periods.

    Hours:

    • 1st Shift – 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM
    • 2nd Shift – 3:00 PM to 11:00 PM
    • 3rd Shift – 11:00 PM to 7:00 AM

    Note: If hired, training on the 1st shift will last up to 17 days with a trainer.

    Salary

    Up to $19.56 per hour.
