Unit Desk Clerk - Evenings - Emergency Department - Wilkes-Barre, PA

Job Summary

Geisinger is proud to offer a full‑time Unit Desk Clerk (minimum hiring rate $16.24 per hour, with increased rates for experienced individuals and up to $3 shift differentials for evenings, nights, and weekend shifts). The position may also provide up to $40,000 in financial support to become a nurse.

The ideal candidate is a highly motivated individual who is committed to delivering the highest quality care to our patients. They will demonstrate a strong ability to meet both the orientation and long‑term full‑time scheduling requirements of the role. Reliability, punctuality, and strong attendance are essential.

• Responsible and accountable for performing a wide range of clerical duties in a patient care environment.
• Participate in required patient safety education programs and other activities designed to improve departmental and organizational safety.
• Assure appropriate bed assignment.
• Ensure timely notification of teletracking upon discharge.
• Perform clerical duties for admissions, transfers, discharges, and deaths according to standards.
• Transcribe and process orders according to unit standards.
• Release and confirm ordered tests to appropriate departments.
• Coordinate transportation of patients to multiple tests.
• Communicate patient‑related information promptly to the appropriate care team member.
• Participate in obtaining and communicating electronic information as pertinent to the nursing unit.
• Communicate with food services to ensure appropriate patient diets.
• Collaborate with other health care teams to facilitate multidisciplinary patient care.
• Obtain and order supplies.
• File forms and reports according to standards.
• Maintain an organized patient care environment.
• Operate, problem‑solve, and take corrective measures for clerical equipment.
• Assist with transporting non‑controlled medications to and from pharmacy and within the unit as needed.
• Assist with transporting blood products to and from blood bank as needed.
• Assist care team in the collection of necessary data or reports.
• Precept and mentor new staff in a professional, positive manner.

Full time, evenings (36 hours per week). 3–12‑hour shifts, 11 am–11:30 pm. Every other weekend and holiday rotation required.

High School Diploma or Equivalent (GED) – required.

• Pediatric Advanced Life Support Certification – American Heart Association (AHA)
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support Certification – American Heart Association (AHA)
