The Department of General Services is hiring Electricians to keep vital buildings and equipment in strong working order and to ensure essential systems remain safe and reliable. Description of WorkAs an Electrician 1, you will support the electrical needs of the Capitol Complex and nearby buildings. Your responsibilities include:
- Install, maintain, and repair wiring, lighting, controls, and other electrical components.
- Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of National Electrical Code standards.
- Identify and correct power failures and short circuits using proper tools and procedures.
- Operate volt‑ohm‑milliamp meters, amprobes, meggers, and similar devices to complete assigned work.
- Follow blueprints and coordinate with other trades to prepare materials and support smooth project flow.
This position is considered essential; you will be required to report in‑office during emergencies and office closings.
Work Schedule and Additional Information- Full-time employment, 37.5 hours per week.
- Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday‑Friday, with a 30‑minute lunch.
- Telework: not available.
- Salary may be non‑negotiable in some cases.
- Successful completion of the Electrician Trainee program (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title), or
- Four years of experience installing, repairing, maintaining electrical systems, components, and equipment; or
- An equivalent combination of experience and training.
- Possession of a valid journey‑level electrician license issued by the local Pennsylvania jurisdiction (City of Harrisburg).
- Possession of an active motor vehicle license.
- Willingness and ability to work in Dauphin County, Pennsylvania.
- Ability to perform essential job functions.
- Formal training in a high‑school or vocational program, apprenticeship, or post‑high school technical program in the electrical trade.
- Electrical experience in the commercial or industrial setting.
- Experience in reading and interpreting blueprints.
- Experience with 3‑phase electrical systems.
- Experience working with voltages up to and including 480 V.
- Experience as a lead worker on an electrical project and/or job.
- Experience in snow removal with plows, snow blowers, or other equipment.
- Willingness and ability to work at heights (ladders, scaffolding, bucket trucks, or man lifts).
