Position Summary
Under minimum supervision, operates, maintains, and troubleshoots building Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning, and Refrigeration (HVACR) systems and equipment in all University facilities, including classrooms, laboratories, offices, student residences, and refrigerators/freezers, in accordance with applicable standards and regulatory agencies.

- Operates, maintains, troubleshoots, and repairs HVACR equipment consistent with manufacturer’s guidelines and accepted practices.
- Installs HVACR units, ductwork, electronic, electrical, and mechanical components.
- Installs computerized electronic, pneumatic, and direct digital control (DDC) devices.
- Maintains and repairs electrical equipment and appliances, oil and gas equipment, refrigerators/freezers, and other refrigeration equipment.
- Operates and keeps in good working order a variety of equipment including hand tools and measuring/diagnostic/testing meters.
- Conserves, installs, recycles, and reclaims refrigerants.
- Reads and interprets complex blueprints, sketches, schematics, and wiring diagrams.
- Performs brazing, silver and lead soldering, pipe fitting, welding, and fabrication as required.
- Performs carpentry, masonry, painting, and plastering as required.
- Coordinates repairs with other trades affected by HVAC operations.
- Assists in furniture and event set‑ups and break‑downs for special functions.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
- High school diploma or equivalent and completion of formal HVACR training.
- Possess EPA Universal/R410A license.
- Currently classified as HVAC Technician 2nd Class and meets all qualifications for that class.
- Minimum of five years of HVAC service at Villanova University (subject to Facilities Management discretion).
- Must possess personal hand tools required for the trade.
- Ability to research and use technical manuals, supply catalogs, and internet resources for repairs.
- Proficient in recovering, recycling, and reclaiming refrigerants per industry standards.
- Record refrigerant loss/charge amounts on work orders and perform preventative maintenance using the campus work order system.
- Lubricate, repair, replace, and align mechanical drive components and pumps for HVAC equipment.
- Verify operation of chilled/heating water systems, boilers, and steam pressure.
- Install, secure, repair, or replace air distribution components to optimize airflow.
- Troubleshoot electric heat sources, air distribution systems, and central heating/cooling systems.
- Diagnose and repair direct expansion/refrigeration systems.
- Apply pipe fitting techniques such as threading, brazing, and soldering.
- Understand control systems, including DDC, pneumatic, electronic, and electro‑mechanical controls.
- Follow verbal and written directions and interact professionally with all campus stakeholders.
- Read and interpret schematics, wiring diagrams, blueprints, and sequences of operation.
- Physical ability to climb ladders, bend, reach, crawl, and lift up to 60 lb; work in enclosed spaces.
- Valid driver’s license.
- No disciplinary actions in the past 12 months.
- Current ANSI/OSHA training card for aerial lift, bucket truck, forklift, or scaffolding.
- Excellent safety record.
- Current OSHA 10 certification or higher; ability to operate aerial/scissor lift, bucket truck, and forklift.
- Physical ability to climb ladders, bend, reach, crawl, and lift up to 60 lb; work in enclosed spaces.
- Core hours Monday‑Friday 7:30 am to 4:00 pm; may start earlier or stay later for emergency repairs.
