The Pennsylvania Department of Corrections at SCI Waymart is actively seeking a devoted and passionate Plumbing Trade Instructor to join a dedicated maintenance team where collaboration and communication are integral. This role offers a supportive environment that values patience, leadership, and strong communication.
Description of Work- Training delivery:
Provide classroom and on‑the‑job instruction in standard plumbing practices and systems. - Work crew oversight:
Supervise and guide inmate workers as they complete plumbing assignments. - Tool and material control:
Issue, track, and manage materials and tools used during instruction and job tasks. - Scheduling and planning:
Organize daily inmate work schedules and inspect work for quality and accuracy. - Documentation management:
Maintain detailed records of inmate progress, attendance, and assignment information.
- Full‑time employment, 40‑hour work week.
- Work hours:
7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday through Friday. - Telework:
Not available. - Salary:
Starting annual salary of $51,868.00 (before taxes) for new entrants within the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. - Eligible for full retirement benefits at age 50 or 55.
- Five years of experience in the inspection, maintenance, repair, assembly, and installation of pipes, fittings, and fixtures used in heating, water, and drainage systems; or
- Completion of an approved apprenticeship in the plumbing trade; or
- An equivalent combination of experience and training that includes one year of journey level work in the plumbing trade.
- Must successfully complete basic training in Elizabethtown, PA.
- Must meet the Pennsylvania residency requirement.
- Must be able to perform essential job functions.
- Must pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.
