Description Of Work

This position focuses on maintaining and repairing a wide range of vehicles and construction equipment to keep operations safe and reliable. Through your work, you will support transportation services that communities depend on each day. As a Diesel and Construction Equipment Mechanic, you will perform the following duties:

  • Equipment Repair: Perform repairs and replacements on engines, transmissions, brakes, electrical parts, and other essential components
  • Preventative Care: Carry out scheduled maintenance, tune ups, diagnostics, and adjustments on vehicles and equipment
  • State Inspections: Conduct official safety and emissions inspections and complete all related paperwork
  • Diagnostic Work: Identify mechanical issues using tools and testing equipment and determine correct repair methods
  • Safety Practices: Maintain a clean work area, follow safety procedures, and report hazards, injuries, or equipment damage
  • Field Support: Make routine adjustments, demonstrate repair techniques to others, and assist with major equipment repairs

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 6:00 AM to 2:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Work hours are subject to change based on seasonal requirements and operational needs. Travel, overtime, and shift work may be required.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary:
    In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

Required Experience, Training & Eligibility

Qualifications

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Successful completion of the commonwealth's Diesel and Construction Equipment Mechanic Trainee program; or
  • Two years of journey level mechanic experience in the diagnosis and repair of automobiles, heavy trucks, or construction equipment, which includes one year of experience in the diagnosis and repair of diesel vehicles or equipment; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Special Requirements:

  • This position requires possession of an active Class A or Class B Commercial Driver's License.
  • This position requires possession of an active Medical Examiner's Certificate in accordance with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration Regulations on the first day of employment.
  • This position requires an active Pennsylvania Class 7 Inspection Mechanic Certification on the first day of employment.
  • This position requires possession of an active Tank Vehicle Endorsement (N) within the probationary period.

Additional Requirements:

  • Employees may be required to obtain and maintain CDL endorsements and certifications necessary to operate specific pieces of equipment.
  • This position is subject to Drug and Alcohol testing in accordance with Federal Regulations.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
