The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania's Maintenance Division is looking for a motivated Electrician 2 to assist in maintaining the historic facilities at the Capitol Complex and adjacent office buildings. This role gives you the opportunity to work with a wide range of electrical equipment across historic, complex, and high demand environments. Your skills will help ensure safe, reliable service for staff, partners, and visitors throughout the Capitol Complex and beyond.

DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This role focuses on skilled electrical work that supports power systems, building operations, and safety across several Commonwealth facilities. As an Electrician 2, you will perform the following duties:

  • Journeyman Duties:
    Plan and coordinate electrical work involving wiring, equipment, lighting, and controls
  • Code Knowledge:
    Maintain strong understanding of National Electrical Code standards
  • Problem Correction:
    Pinpoint and correct power failures and short circuits
  • EV Assessment:
    Review locations for EV charging stations and prepare drawings, lists, and project details
  • Meter Operation:
    Use electrical meters and devices to support accurate diagnostics and repairs
  • Blueprint Review:
    Follow blueprints and specifications when preparing permit paperwork and planning tasks

Work Schedule and Additional Information
  • Full-time employment, 37.5 hours per week
  • Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Note:

    This position is considered essential. You will be required to report in-office during emergencies and office closings.
  • Telework:
    You will not have the option to telework in this position.

Required Experience, Training & Eligibility

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Six years of experience installing, repairing, and maintaining electrical systems, components, and equipment, including two years performing skilled electrical installation and repair work in commercial, industrial, or multi-unit residential structures; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training which includes two years performing skilled electrical installation and repair work in commercial, industrial, or multi-unit residential structures.

Special Requirements:

  • This position requires possession of a valid license as a journey-level electrician issued by the local Pennsylvania jurisdiction (City of Harrisburg).
  • This position requires possession of an active motor vehicle license.

Additional Requirement:

  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

Preferred Qualifications (not required):

  • Formal training in a high school or vocational program, apprenticeship, or post-high school technical program in the Electrical trade
  • Electrical experience in a commercial or industrial setting
  • Experience reading and interpreting blueprints
  • Experience with 3 phase electrical systems
  • Experience working with voltages over 480v
  • Experience as a lead worker on an electrical project and/or job
  • Experience in snow removal with plows, snow blowers, or other snow removal equipment
  • Must be willing and able to occasionally work from ladders, scaffolding, bucket trucks, or man lifts
