In the County Caseworker 1 position with Washington County Children and Youth Services, you will help guide children, youth, and families toward positive change. This role provides meaningful opportunities to support people during important moments in their lives. You will gain hands‑on experience while working in a supportive and professional environment.
OverviewThis position focuses on helping children, youth, and families reach better social, emotional, physical, and economic stability. You will apply casework skills to gather information, counsel clients, and connect them with resources.
Responsibilities- Client Support: Assist children, youth, and families in working toward improved social and emotional adjustment.
- Information Gathering: Collect essential background details needed to understand client needs.
- Counseling Services: Provide guidance to clients and family members as they address challenges.
- Resource Coordination: Help clients make use of available community and agency supports.
- Training Participation: Engage in required classroom and fieldwork training under supervision during the probationary period.
- Full‑time employment.
- Work hours are 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday‑Friday, with a 30‑minute lunch.
- This position includes working evening and weekend hours, as well as performing on‑call duties.
- After one year of service the role automatically progresses to Caseworker II at an hourly rate of $27.23 per hour ($53,098.50 per year).
- Telework is not available for this position.
- Two years as a County Social Services Aide 3 and two years of college‑level coursework including 12 college credits in sociology, social welfare, psychology, gerontology, criminal justice, or related social sciences; or
- A bachelor’s degree supplemented by successful completion of 12 college credits in the same fields; or
- Any combination of experience and training including 12 college credits in the aforementioned fields and one year as a County Social Services Aide 3 or equivalent paraprofessional case‑management position.
- Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within two months of graduating with a qualifying degree or credits.
- PA residency requirement is currently waived for this title.
- You must be able to perform essential job functions.
- A conditional offer of employment requires a medical examination and a drug screening.
- You must pass a background investigation.
- This position falls under the provisions of the Child Protective Services Law, which requires submission and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports including PA State Police clearance, PA Child Abuse history clearance, and FBI fingerprint clearance.
