Psychological Services Specialist, DOC - SCI Camp Hill

The Position

Psychological Services Specialist, DOC position with the Department of Corrections (DOC) offers a chance to make a real difference every day. This role supports positive growth for individuals who depend on guidance and stability. Your work at the State Correctional Institution (SCI) at Camp Hill will help improve inmate well‑being and strengthen the overall correctional environment.

• Provide individual and group counseling that promotes healthy behavior and emotional adjustment.
• Administer and interpret standard psychological tests to help determine inmate needs.
• Coordinate with staff, departments, and mental‑health facilities to ensure delivery of direct services.
• Offer support during urgent mental‑health situations for inmates in assessment housing.
• Serve on institutional committees to share insights and support case decisions.
• Maintain mental‑health resource information for inmates preparing for release.

• Master’s degree in psychology or a closely related field that includes fifteen graduate‑level credits in psychology or counseling.
• Applicants within three months of graduating with a qualifying degree/credits are considered to have met the educational requirements.
• Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.
• Must meet Pennsylvania residency requirements.
• Must be able to perform essential job functions.

• Must pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.

• Full‑time employment, 37.5‑hour work week.
• Work hours 8:00 AM–4:00 PM, Monday–Friday, with a 30‑minute lunch.
• Eligible for full retirement benefits at age 50 or 55.
• Telework:
  No telework option in this position.
• Salary may be non‑negotiable in some cases; additional pay will be considered for those who possess or obtain licensure as a Social Worker, Clinical Social Worker, or Professional Counselor issued by the Pennsylvania State Board of Social Workers, Marriage and Family Therapist, or Professional Counselors.

• Pennsylvania law (51 Pa. C.S. § 7103) provides employment preference for qualified veterans for appointment to many state and local government jobs.
