The PennDOT CDL Operator position in District 9 offers an exciting chance to support roadway safety. Responsibilities- Equipment Preparation:
Ready painting equipment each day by loading supplies, checking calibration, and ensuring proper fuel levels. - Painting Operations:
Operate and monitor painting equipment to apply correct line widths, colors, bead distribution, and placement. - Heavy Equipment:
Operate assigned machinery such as loaders, plows, mowers, rollers, or similar equipment as certified. - Manual Tasks:
Use hand and power tools for roadwork, grounds tasks, and general maintenance activities. - Safety Compliance:
Follow safety procedures, use protective equipment, and report hazards or incidents immediately.
- Full‑time employment.
- Work hours are 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM, Monday – Friday, with a 30‑minute lunch.
- This position requires overtime.
- Hours will vary in winter; paint crew summer work is by union agreement.
- April–December:
Assigned to District 9 Paint Crew based at the Hollidaysburg Shed in Blair County. - December–March:
Assigned to a District 9 winter stockpile in Bedford, Blair, Cambria, Fulton, Huntingdon, or Somerset County if residence is within a District 9 County. - Telework:
You will not have the option to telework in this position. - Salary:
In some cases, the starting salary may be non‑negotiable.
- Successful completion of the Transportation Equipment Operator Trainee Program (or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration).
- Graduation from a Commercial Driver’s License Training School (or equivalent).
- An equivalent combination of experience and training.
- Possession of a valid Pennsylvania Class A or Class B Commercial Driver's License with the Air Brake Restriction (L) removed and the Manual Transmission (E) Restriction removed.
- Valid Medical Examiner's Certificate in accordance with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations.
- Active certification issued by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation in the operation of heavy trucks and loaders, and two additional pieces of construction equipment, within the probationary period.
- Active Tank Vehicle Endorsement (N) and Hazardous Materials (H) Endorsement during the probationary period and continuously maintained while employed.
- Certain employees may require additional certifications issued by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation on assigned pieces of equipment.
- Demonstrate successful operation of equipment with a manual transmission.
- Willing and able to work unannounced overtime.
- Willing and able to repair industrial‑type equipment (pumps, paint and bead guns, other painting related equipment).
- Must be able to perform essential job functions.
