Join the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation’s (PennDOT) Bureau of Driver Licensing as a Driver License Examiner for Commercial Driver License (CDL) candidates. - Skill Evaluation: Administer knowledge and skills tests for non-commercial and commercial applicants following department standards
- Safety Assessment: Determine physical and driving qualifications of applicants and verify vehicle safety conditions
- Document Review: Examine identity, residency, and legal documents for authenticity using approved systems and procedures
- Fraud Prevention: Identify inconsistencies, detect possible fraud, and prevent creation of false identities
- Customer Communication: Explain test procedures, share results, and provide information on driver licensing processes
- Record Processing: Process applications, record test results, and issue license products to eligible individuals
- Full‑time employment
- Work hours are 8:15 AM to 4:45 PM, Tuesday – Saturday, with a 30‑minute lunch
- Overtime and travel to other driver license centers may be required as necessary. Hours may vary on travel days
- Telework: you will not have the option to telework in this position
- Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non‑negotiable

- One year of experience as a Driver License Examiner Assistant (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
- Two years of experience obtaining, evaluating, and providing information to the public
- All positions require an active Pennsylvania non‑commercial Class C Driver’s License or equivalent and twenty‑one years of age at the time of application
- All positions require no suspensions or revocations of a driver’s license during the five year period immediately preceding employment
- All employees in this job hired after February 28, 2022, are required to obtain an active unrestricted Class M driver’s license within the first six months of employment or before the end of the probationary period and maintain it during employment
- This position requires possession of an active Class A Pennsylvania Commercial Driver’s License or equivalent with the following endorsements: P and N. The Commercial Driver License cannot have any of the following restrictions: E, L, N, O, or Z
