Position: Driver License Examiner w/ CDL - Rockview

Description of Work

This position focuses on evaluating driver skills and ensuring that all applicants meet required standards for safe vehicle operation. As a Driver License Examiner, you will perform the following duties:

  • Conduct Examinations:
    Carry out standardized skills and knowledge tests for Commercial and Non-Commercial Driver License applicants.
  • Assess

    Qualifications:

    Evaluate applicant driving abilities, physical readiness, and vehicle conditions against established safety standards.
  • Verify Compliance:
    Review applications and related documents for accuracy and investigate possible irregularities or fraud.
  • Inspect Equipment:
    Check vehicles for required safety features such as inspection stickers, lighting, and windshield wipers.
  • Administer Tests:
    Perform vision screenings and CDL-related exams, including knowledge, pre‑trip, and driving tests.
  • Audit Programs:
    Monitor Third Party Examiners and Driver Education teachers for compliance with testing requirements.
Work Schedule and Additional Information
  • Full‑time employment.
  • Work hours are 8:15 AM to 4:45 PM, Tuesday — Saturday, with a 30‑minute lunch.
  • Work overtime and travel to other Driver License Centers when needed.
  • Telework:
    You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary:
    In some cases, the starting salary may be non‑negotiable.
Qualifications Required Experience, Training & Eligibility Minimum Experience and Training Requirements
  • One year of experience as a Driver License Examiner Assistant (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
  • Two years of experience obtaining, evaluating, and providing information to the public.
Special Requirements
  • All positions require an active Pennsylvania non‑commercial Class C Driver’s License or equivalent and twenty‑one years of age at the time of application.
  • All positions require no suspensions or revocations of a driver’s license during the five‑year period immediately preceding employment.
  • All employees in this job hired after February 28, 2022, are required to obtain an active unrestricted Class M driver’s license within the first six months of employment or before the end of the probationary period and maintain it during employment.
  • This position requires possession of an active Class A Pennsylvania Commercial Driver's License or equivalent with the following endorsements: P and N. The Commercial Driver License cannot have any of the following restrictions: E, L, N, O, or Z.

  • You must meet the PA residency requirement.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
