Warden Kershaw Correctional Institution, Kershaw; LANCASTER Level 2

Job Responsibilities

IS ON CALL TWENTY-FOUR HOURS A DAY, SEVEN DAYS A WEEK.

• Plans, organizes, directs, coordinates, manages, and is responsible for all administrative, security, safety, welfare, and programmatic missions/activities for Kershaw correctional institution.

• Ensures that all inmates assigned to this level two facility are secured and held in custody until released by proper authority.

• Ensures the safety of all assigned employees; plans and implements programs for the inmates assigned to the institution.

• The incumbent will be assigned an emergency vehicle to immediately respond to and coordinate efforts relating to disturbances/emergencies within the institution.

• Ensure the institutional operations and programs are conducted in accordance with state laws, SCDC policy and good management practices; and that these functions are carried out in a cost-effective manner.

Must successfully complete eight (8) weeks of SCDC Basic Training upon hire.

Minimum Requirements:

A bachelor's degree and supervisory experience in a correctional environment or relevant military experience. Relevant experience may be substituted for the bachelor's degree on a year-for-year basis.

Minimum Requirements:

• A high school diploma and twelve (12) years of experience in correctional, security, military, or police work, which include six (6) years of supervisory experience in a correctional environment.

• A bachelor's degree may substitute for 4 years of overall experience.

• An associate degree may substitute for 2 years of overall experience.

• No substitutions for supervisory experience.

• Must be certified by the SCDC Training Academy and successfully complete the basic supervisory course within six (6) months of entry into the position.
