A well-established heavy highway and civil construction company is hiring a Heavy Equipment Service Manager / Shop Foreman in Lancaster, SC to lead shop and field service operations. Duties & Responsibilities Lead daily shop and field service operations, balancing preventive maintenance, repair orders, inspections, service calls, and jobsite equipment breakdowns.
Prioritize and assign mechanics based on urgency, skill level, equipment needs, and production impact, adjusting assignments as priorities change.
Serve as the primary shop contact for jobsite equipment failures, assess repair needs, dispatch service resources, and communicate status updates to operations leadership.
Provide technical direction, training, and coaching to diesel mechanics, reviewing repair quality and troubleshooting direction while leading the operation rather than serving as the primary repair technician.
Coordinate parts and vendor support, monitor maintenance and repair costs, and maintain accurate work orders, service records, and equipment maintenance history.
Maintain a safe, organized shop, inspect tools and work areas, and reinforce PPE requirements and safe work practices with the safety team.
Requirements
Required:
High school diploma or equivalent.
3+ years of progressively responsible diesel mechanic or heavy equipment maintenance experience, including the ability to guide and oversee repair work performed by mechanics.
Strong working knowledge of diesel, mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems with the ability to guide troubleshooting and verify repair direction.
Ability to read maintenance manuals, repair procedures, schematics, and technical information, with sufficient welding and fabrication knowledge to oversee repair quality when needed.
Strong leadership skills with the ability to delegate work, prioritize service needs, coordinate people and resources, and coach mechanic staff.
Clear communication and documentation skills for working with mechanics, operators, field leaders, managers, vendors, and maintaining accurate service records.
Valid state driver’s license with an acceptable driving record and ability to safely access shop and field service areas, inspect equipment, and perform the physical duties required for the role.
Preferred:
Prior shop leadership, service management, field service coordination, or mechanic supervisory experience.
Valid CDL. #SJ1 Compensation:$75,000 – $85,000 annual salary based on experience, certifications, and training
