Lifeguard; Part-Time​/Seasonal

Overview

The Lifeguard is responsible for ensuring the safety of all patrons at the Wylie Street Pool by preventing and responding to emergencies in and around the water. This position requires strong surveillance skills, quick decision-making, and the ability to enforce facility rules in a professional and courteous manner.

Lifeguards serve as ambassadors of Lancaster County Parks & Recreation by maintaining a safe, welcoming, and positive aquatic environment for individuals and families. Lifeguards are also required to assist with swim team activities and support aquatic programming as directed.

All selected candidates must successfully pass a pre-employment drug test and background screening.

This position reports to the Pool Manager.

• Maintain constant surveillance of patrons in the pool and surrounding areas.
• Enforce all pool rules, policies, and safety regulations.
• Recognize and respond effectively to aquatic emergencies.
• Administer first aid, CPR, AED, and water rescues as necessary.
• Complete required incident and accident reports accurately and promptly.
• Assist with opening and closing procedures of the facility.
• Maintain cleanliness of pool deck, restrooms, and surrounding areas.
• Conduct daily safety checks of equipment and report maintenance concerns.
• Assist with swim team practices and events as assigned.
• Provide support for aquatic programs and special events.
• Maintain a professional appearance and positive attitude while interacting with patrons.
• Attend required staff meetings and in-service trainings.

• Must be at least 16 years of age.
• Current Lifeguard Certification (American Red Cross or equivalent preferred).
  • If not currently certified, candidate must successfully complete required certification prior to employment. Lancaster County Parks & Recreation will cover certification costs if needed.
• CPR/AED and First Aid Certification.
• Ability to pass required lifeguard skills testing prior to hire.
• Ability to assist with swim team operations.
• Strong swimming skills and physical endurance.
• Ability to remain alert and attentive for extended periods.
• Excellent communication and customer service skills.
• Must pass a pre-employment drug screening.
• Ability to pass a criminal background check.
