Job Summary

The Crew Lead - Data Center Services will support both the physical and virtual infrastructure of the organization and its facilities. The Crew Lead - DCS will drive data center best practice and relative industry standards into working processes and procedures as applicable. The Crew Lead – DCS will act as the on‑site coordinator and crew supervisor.

Job Duties and Responsibilities
  • Directly support and coordinate all scheduled data center MACs based on set DCIT calendar event scheduling.
  • Implement cable work order (CWO) MACs, testing and certification, and assist with crafting LV project BOM and scope documents.
  • Perform asset auditing and daily error logs.
  • Provide equipment installation MACs, including device labeling, power connectivity, LV cable connectivity and proper cable dressing.
  • Provide smart‑hands assistance as required.
  • Maintain a safe and secure operating environment within the GPN data center and report any violations to DCIT immediately as necessary.
  • Maintain concise, detailed documentation and record keeping relative to asset installation layout, cable plant patch matrix, cable labeling standards, etc.
  • Maintain the secure hard drive disk (HDD) bin and log, and ensure compliance with retention practices and notifications to DCIT as required.
  • Ticketing and service calls.
  • Use basic computer productivity tools such as MS Office (Word, Excel, etc.), testing tools/applications, and data center infrastructure (DCIM) related tools.
  • Coordinate equipment/material receiving, shipping and RMA processing support.
  • Provide general cleaning on raised floor, cabinet/rack exterior surfaces, work benches and other areas as needed on a weekly basis.
  • Troubleshoot layer‑1 suspected cable plant issues.
  • Handle networking, storage and general power distribution.
  • Develop, document and monitor performance measures and processes required for audit and operational compliance related to data center best practices and industry standards; responsible for ISO 27001 / 9001 and TIA/EIA‑942 certifications.
  • Support standard and emergency operating procedures for data center.
  • Ensure maintenance schedules within the Data Center align with best industry standards and are followed and reviewed annually.
  • Provide status reporting regarding Data Center service availability, performance, capacity utilization as required.
  • Report daily error logs and perform physical DC inspections for general health, power, cooling, hazards, etc.
  • Coordinate equipment installation and delivery schedules in accordance with set project plans.
  • Directly participate and provide key input for all data center expansion, migration and decommissioning plans.
Tools
  • Basic Hand Tools: screwdriver (regular and Phillips), drywall saw, torpedo level, tape measure, snips (with belt sheath), pliers (needle nose and channel locks), hammer, cable stripper, flashlight and gloves.
  • Trade Tools: punch tool with 110 block and 66 block blade, 6/8 position combo crimp tool, Krone/3M/BIX, butt set, volt‑ohmmeter, 4‑pair continuity tester and 5‑gang punch tool.
Compensation

USD $26.00 / Hr – USD $35.00 / Hr.

Qualifications

Physical and Mental Requirements

  • Self‑motivated, positive approach, professional and able to create, develop and implement project process improvements.
  • Promote the company culture and mission to all employees, vendors, clients and business partners.
  • 3‑5 years working in data centers relative to the datacom/telecom industry, operations and administration or related technical field.
  • General knowledge of telecom/IP equipment and software configurations.
  • Basic understanding of AC/DC power principles.
  • Strong aptitude for independent working environment and high productivity rate.
  • Act as company liaison for interface with customer representative(s).
  • Proven problem‑solving, critical thinking and effective written and oral presentation skills.
  • Ability to work at heights, off a ladder and in confined spaces, lift up to 50 lbs and move up to 75 lbs.
  • Vision and hearing sufficient to see different colors, read small print and recognize audible signals such as dial tones.
  • Excellent communication and customer relationship skills.
  • Regular attendance is mandatory.
