The Yard Driver/Forklift Operator is a dual role. As a Yard Driver, you are responsive to the customer regarding the movement and spotting of trailers to facilitate the needs of the warehouse in sorting and processing material for shipment or storage. As a Forklift Operator, you operate power industrial trucks for moving, locating, relocating, stacking and counting merchandise, and may also perform Order Filler and Checker duties.
You are responsible for the accurate storing, shipping, and receiving of product to meet company safety, security, and productivity standards.
- Maintain a neat and orderly storage lot oriented toward maximizing efficiency in servicing customer needs.
- Account for records involving trailer numbers and position of vehicles.
- Function and interact on a daily basis with warehouse supervisors and comply with warehouse safety requirements.
- Communicate using cellular telephone or 2‑way radio with operations and warehouse personnel in a courteous and professional manner.
- Maneuver trucks into loading and unloading position following signals from the loading crew. Place safety wheel chocks and, when a trailer is pulled, ensure correct placement of the jack stand (locked on the ground). Notify the customer if no jack stand is installed.
- Properly use airline/electrical hookup and backing procedures.
- Follow all company policies, guidelines, and quality procedures.
- Perform other job‑related duties as assigned.
- Inspect and perform minor maintenance on the equipment on a daily basis.
- Assist in maintaining the security of the warehouse and yard.
