SummaryThe Supervisor, Driver Operations is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day activities of company drivers operating across regional routes to ensure safe, efficient, and compliant transportation operations. This role provides leadership and support to a team of regional drivers while coordinating operational activities that promote on-time delivery, regulatory compliance, and high levels of customer satisfaction.
The Supervisor, Driver Operations works closely with operations leadership, customer service teams, and drivers to optimize routing, monitor performance, and resolve operational challenges across the regional network. This role plays a key part in maintaining compliance with Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations while ensuring drivers operate in accordance with company safety standards and operational procedures.
Duties & Responsibilities- Supervise and provide leadership to a team of regional drivers, including performance monitoring, coaching, and ongoing support to ensure efficient and compliant transportation operations.
- Conduct regular driver performance reviews and provide constructive feedback to support continuous improvement and operational excellence.
- Foster a collaborative team environment that promotes safety, accountability, and high performance across the driver team.
- Maintain regular communication with drivers while they are on the road, providing operational support and addressing issues that may impact safety, service, scheduling, or route completion.
- Address and resolve driver-related operational issues, escalating concerns when necessary and ensuring timely resolution.
- Plan, review, and optimize regional transportation routes to improve fuel efficiency, reduce deadhead miles, effectively utilize driver capacity, and ensure safe and on-time delivery of freight.
- Monitor driver availability, route progress, hours of service, traffic, weather, and other operational conditions or route constraints, making adjustments as necessary to maintain service reliability and regulatory compliance.
- Coordinate driver assignments and schedules across regional routes based on freight requirements, driver availability, hours-of-service limitations, and operational priorities.
- Ensure drivers comply with all applicable DOT regulations, federal and state transportation laws, and company policies and procedures.
- Conduct regular driver meetings focused on safety, operational updates, compliance expectations, and team communication.
- Collaborate with customer service and operations teams to address delivery concerns and ensure timely resolution of customer issues.
- Support initiatives designed to improve service quality, operational efficiency, driver utilization, and overall transportation performance.
- Utilize Transportation Management Systems (TMS) and related technology tools to manage driver operations, track route and driver performance, and support operational decision-making.
- Provide training and guidance to drivers on the use of company technology platforms and operational systems.
- Review and approve operational documentation, reports, and driver-related records as required.
- Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned to support business operations.
- High school diploma or GED required. Bachelor's degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Transportation, Business, or a related field preferred; equivalent industry experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
