The Secondary Reading Interventionist/English Intervention Teacher exists to ensure that all secondary students, particularly those experiencing reading and writing skill gaps, receive targeted, evidence-based literacy support that enables them to access grade-level curriculum, graduate prepared, and succeed beyond high school. This position strengthens the district's commitment to equitable access, academic achievement, and culturally responsive education by providing focused literacy intervention aligned to secondary English Language Arts standards and cross-content literacy demands.
PositionPurpose
Many secondary students struggle not because they lack intelligence or motivation, but because foundational literacy skills have not yet fully developed. This role is designed to:
- Close persistent reading and writing gaps
- Increase student confidence and engagement
- Improve content-area comprehension
- Support graduation readiness
- Strengthen intervention systems (RTI/MTSS) at the secondary level
The Interventionist works proactively and collaboratively to prevent academic failure by identifying student needs early and responding with strategic, data-driven instruction.
Key Responsibilities Targeted Literacy Instruction- Provide small-group and individualized intervention focused on reading comprehension, fluency, vocabulary development, and writing.
- Deliver explicit, systematic instruction using evidence-based strategies.
- Support students in applying literacy skills across content areas (ELA, science, social studies, etc.).
- Utilize diagnostic, formative, and progress-monitoring assessments to identify skill gaps.
- Adjust instruction based on student data.
- Maintain accurate documentation of interventions and student growth.
- Collaborate with ELA teachers, special education staff, English Learner support staff, and MTSS/RTI teams.
- Participate in professional learning communities focused on literacy improvement.
- Contribute to school wide literacy initiatives and improvement efforts.
- Communicate student progress clearly and constructively with families.
- Partner with caregivers to reinforce literacy growth outside of school.
- Demonstrate knowledge of and respect for Native American culture and traditions.
- Implement culturally responsive instructional practices that honor student identity and community values.
- Maintain accurate and legally compliant records.
- Adhere to all district policies and state regulations.
- Engage in professional growth related to secondary literacy intervention.
- Applicants must hold or be eligible to obtain appropriate licensure through the Wyoming Professional Teaching Standards Board (PTSB), including:
- Secondary English Language Arts (Grades 7–12), or
- Reading (Grades K–12).
- Master's degree in Reading, Literacy, or Curriculum & Instruction
- Experience with secondary RTI/MTSS systems
- Training in evidence-based literacy intervention programs
- Experience supporting English Learners and students with IEPs
- Strong instructional planning and data analysis skills
Reports to the Building Principal.
EvaluationPerformance will be evaluated in accordance with district policy governing certified staff.
Terms of EmploymentContract length and compensation are determined in alignment with district policy and experience.
