Position Summary

Instructional faculty are responsible for creating an innovative learning environment that promotes student success both inside and outside the classroom, while adhering to professional standards and ethics. This grant-funded position supports teaching and student learning in Geospatial Information Science & Technology (GIST) and Expedition Science programs through classroom instruction, field-based education, and student mentoring.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

* This position functions as part of a collaborative, multidisciplinary teaching team. Depending on the candidate's strengths and prior experience, the role may emphasize different duties and may involve leading certain processes or just providing support to complement other faculty. Specific responsibilities may be adjusted to leverage the selected candidate's background, expertise, and professional strengths.

Teaching & Student Support:

1. Teach various courses in geospatial science, environmental science, and field and classroom based research topics, and supervise and mentor students in classroom and field environments.

2. Deliver outcomes-based, interdisciplinary coursework grounded in current practices in GIS, outdoor education, environmental science, and/or field research.

3. Maintain a strong student-focused approach to mentoring and academic advising; hold at least 5 weekly in-person office hours and support students with coursework, study skills, field preparation, and research needs.

4. Demonstrate instructional competence across relevant disciplines and effectively evaluate and document student performance.

5. Advise, support, and supervise students completing independent research, applied field studies, and/or GIS-related internships.

Curriculum, Assessment & Program Duties:

6. Regularly assess, update, and refine curriculum; maintain syllabi, course forms, assessment artifacts, and other required documents.

7. Support the creation and delivery of new field labs, hands-on activities, and interdisciplinary field methods modules.

8. Participate in annual and rotating academic program reviews, including assessment at the course, program, and institutional levels.

9. Stay current on degree requirements to advise students in GIST, Environmental GIS, and Expedition Science.

10. Assist with departmental and program budgeting and ensure compliance with fiscal guidelines.

         11. Attend required department, division, and committee meetings; collaborate with regional high schools and CWC BOCHES on concurrent/dual-credit offerings.

Partnerships, Outreach & Community Engagement

12. Professionally engage in working relationships with USFS, BLM, NPS, Tribal entities, K-12 schools, and other community partners.

         13. Assist with coordinating collaborative research projects, outreach efforts, and student internship placements.

Grant & Research Support

14. Assist with implementation of grant-funded initiatives (National Science Foundation: ATE I-GIST, EPSCoR, etc.), and potentially contribute to the development and submission of new grant proposals as appropriate

15. Provide input on grant deliverables, documentation, student activities, and compliance requirements.

         16. Attend conferences associated with student research and grant work (e.g., Wyoming Undergraduate Research Day, ATE Innovators Conference).

Administrative & Team Responsibilities

17. Share relevant student information with faculty advisors or student services as appropriate (progress updates, attendance, student concerns).

18. Support communication, scheduling, documentation management, and overall program operations as needed.

         19. Perform additional duties as assigned.

Depending upon the background of the candidate, this position will be responsible for either Expedition-Based Teaching, Logistics & Safety (20) OR GIS, Lab, and Technical Support (21-23) as described below:
