Description:
A surgical technologist is present within the operating room.
They provide assistance to surgeons, nurses, and anesthesiologists.
The technologist hands necessary instruments to the surgeon to facilitate the surgery.
It is important to anticipate which devices the surgeon will need to avoid delays.
The technologist may monitor equipment related to vital signs.
They set up and maintain the surgical field, collaborating with nurses and doctors and assisting where required.
The role includes assembling, transporting, and retrieving surgical equipment, ensuring all pieces leave the room.
They keep all necessary surgical equipment ready, including sterile linens, saline, lights, and suction machines.
The technologist inspects, maintains, decontaminates, and repairs surgical equipment while keeping inventory records up to date.
They conduct pre- and post-surgery patient care, which includes shaving, transporting, and applying dressings.
