Responsibilities
  • Develop and maintain an effective system‑wide infection prevention and control program for the facility.
  • Gather and analyze infection data, facts, and trends and communicate this information to other healthcare staff.
  • Provide training and education to medical and non‑medical staff on prevention techniques and practices.
  • Monitor and evaluate the prevalence of healthcare‑associated infections.
  • Support teamwork essential for compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Recognize, isolate, and prevent healthcare‑associated infections that impact client safety and outcomes.
  • Conduct ongoing reviews of facility infection policies, procedures, and guidelines to identify discrepancies and implement revisions as necessary.
  • Direct and assist in preparing reports and statistical data for the infection control committee, the facilities administration, and other committees, as needed.
  • Perform annual assessments and develop action plans from the prior year’s activities.
  • Make recommendations regarding environmental rounds and assure compliance with standards.
  • Notify the Public Health Agency and the Wyoming Department of Health of reportable diseases as required by state statute.
  • Monitor trends in unusual or resistant organisms for evidence of spread to other clients and staff.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Preferences

Preference may be given to applicants with a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing and three (3) or more years of experience in infection control and prevention. Infection Control Certification (CIC) is a plus.

Knowledge and Skills
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and interpersonal.
  • Ability to present information formally and informally using a variety of methods.
  • Time‑management skills and flexibility to meet a wide range of service needs.
  • Leadership, management, and creativity skills.
  • Knowledge of decontamination, disinfection, and sterilization principles, methods to achieve these processes, and monitoring efficacy.
  • Ability to clearly communicate directions and negotiate solutions to problems.
  • Knowledge of the epidemiology of infectious diseases and methods to effectively control their spread.
  • Ability to accept responsibility for medium to large‑scale projects involving multiple resources and spanning many months from start to finish.
  • Ability to react efficiently to frequent changes in duties and volume of work.
  • Ability to work with and around WLRC residents, including those who may display challenging behaviors.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Education:

    Bachelor’s Degree (typically in Nursing)
  • Experience:

    1–2 years of progressive work experience (typically in Nursing) with acquired knowledge at the level of a nurse
  • Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
    Must be licensed or eligible for licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the State of Wyoming
