The WY Lead Sagebrush Technician trains and oversees the field teams, plans field schedules, and collects and manages field data. They may work in variable weather conditions, at remote locations, in hazardous terrain and under physically demanding circumstances.

As part of The Nature Conservancy’s Wyoming Business Unit and the ecosystem-wide Sagebrush Sea Program, the Wyoming Lead Sagebrush Technician will support a variety of projects, including ground-truthing leading-edge invasive annual grass (IAG) models, evaluating the effectiveness of IAG treatments, and assisting tribal partners on the Wind River Indian Reservation with monitoring efforts that inform Indigenous land management practices.
The Lead Sagebrush Technician will be responsible for developing field schedules, coordinating travel to remote locations, ensuring data quality, and training three additional team members—one based in Fremont County and two in Teton County. Work will primarily occur in small teams and, at times, independently to collect and manage vegetation data and, potentially, soils data.
Specific responsibilities include:
- Train and oversee two field teams
- Organize and implement data collection efforts spanning the field season (late May through September)
- Navigate by vehicle and foot to specific locations, likely requiring several miles of hiking each day, to collect vegetation and soils data
- Maintain high standards of consistent data quality
- Collect ecological geospatial data
This is a full-time, temporary position running from April 13th through October 9th.
What You’ll Bring :- Bachelor's degree in science-related field and 1-year experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience with GIS software and data to create maps.
- Valid driver’s license.
Qualifications:
- Field experience in sagebrush ecosystems.
- Experience identifying plants to species level in the sagebrush ecosystem.
- Familiarity with geospatial model development and refinement.
- Experience collecting and managing field data.
- Ability to interpret guidelines and evaluate information and adapt accordingly.
- Ability to work independently and exercise independent judgment.
- Supervisory skills.
- Time management skills.
The starting pay range for a candidate selected for this position is generally within the range of $23.35 to $27.30 for an hourly wage with a standard work week of 35 hours. This range only applies to candidates whose country of employment is the USA. Where a successful candidate’s actual pay will fall within this range will be based on a variety of factors, including, for example, the candidate's location, qualifications, specific skills, and experience.
Please note countries outside the USA would have a different pay range in the local currency based on the local labor market, and not tied to USA pay or ranges. Your geographic location will be confirmed during the recruitment.
