Tetra Tech is currently seeking a Sagebrush Habitat Specialist in Lander, WY. This position is open to remote candidates that reside in WY for local projects. In this role you will work closely with senior staff and agency partners to evaluate sagebrush habitat statewide, develop habitat enhancement plans, and represent Tetra Tech in multi-stakeholder sage‑grouse working groups. Field leadership and mentoring of junior staff are key responsibilities.
We seek a candidate with a PhD in Restoration Ecology, Rangeland Ecology, Botany, Soil Science, or a related field and 15+ years of applied experience; an outstanding record of peer‑reviewed publications and technical reporting; deep expertise in sagebrush ecology and plant taxonomy; and the ability to translate rigorous science into actionable reclamation and restoration outcomes. Essential Job FunctionsSupport the refinement of spatial toolsets that facilitate informed sage‑grouse habitat enhancement and restoration siting and planning.
Qualitative/quantitative vegetation monitoring and data compilation, analysis and interpretation, leveraging experience with field sampling protocols, photo‑points, and statistical analysis.
State‑wide sagebrush habitat evaluations, applying deep knowledge of sagebrush ecology and habitat metrics.
Work on a team of senior ecologists to develop sagebrush habitat enhancement plans, translate monitoring results into practical restoration prescriptions.
Ecological restoration, mitigation and reclamation site reconnaissance, assess on‑the‑ground conditions and reconcile those observations with spatial data summaries.
Coordination with sage grouse working groups across the state of Wyoming, represent Tetra Tech in multi‑stakeholder working groups and technical collaborations.
Verbal and written communications and close collaboration with clients, colleagues, private landowners, construction contractors, private consultants, non‑governmental and conservation agencies, regulatory authorities, and project stakeholders — prepare clear technical reports, memos, and presentations.
The position will require travel and performance of physically demanding field work typically related to environmental monitoring and sampling, site reconnaissance and reclamation/construction oversight.

Required QualificationsPhD in Restoration Ecology, Rangeland Ecology, Botany, Ecology, Soil Science or related field.
15+ years of relevant work experience.
Attention to detail, ability to work independently, willingness to work as part of team and take on leadership positions, when needed.
Positive attitude, willingness to learn, and enjoy working outdoors.
Excellent written and oral communication skills demonstrated by peer‑reviewed publications and technical reports.
Strong skills and proficiency with computer systems and Microsoft‑based software, including MS Excel for data analysis and MS Word for report preparation.
Strong problem solving, time management, and written and verbal communication skills.
A strong background in sagebrush habitat within the Intermountain West — proven by applied research on sage‑grouse and sagebrush ecosystems.
