DutiesProvide general maintenance, repair, and labor services to support grounds, facilities, housing maintenance, potable water and sewer systems maintenance, testing, and record keeping; code compliance and reporting; construction and installations; and other general maintenance and semi‑skilled repair requirements for the Parks Canada Agency.
Conditions of employment- Security Screening: Obtain and maintain Reliability Status.
- Valid Class 5 Driver’s Licence.
- Candidates with the following certification may receive extra credits in the assessment portion of the selection process:
Registered Chainsaw Proficiency (RCP) Certification Level 1 or equivalent;
Small Vessel Operator Proficiency (SVOP) certificate.
- Willingness to work irregular hours, overtime, weekends and/or statutory holidays and provincial/territorial holidays when required.
- Willingness to travel and work in various terrain and weather conditions.
- Willingness to work in an outdoor environment for a prolonged period of time.
- Willingness to wear the appropriate Parks Canada Uniform and safety equipment, including steel‑toed boots and follow safety procedures.
- Willingness to perform certain physical tasks as per job requirements (e.g. lifting up to 20 kg).
- Education: Graduation from secondary school OR an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.
- Experience:
- Experience in one or more technical functions such as plumbing, commercial building repair/maintenance, equipment repair/maintenance, electrical and control.
- Experience in the operation and maintenance of a range of manual and power tools and grounds equipment.
- Experience using computer applications such as Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, One Note, and PDF tools for scheduling, reporting, and record keeping.
- Experience in basic carpentry, general contracting, or construction.
- Experience in general grounds maintenance or cleaning (e.g., trails, landscaping, grounds, facilities).
- Knowledge: Canada health & safety practices such as CLC or Work Safe BC; general knowledge of construction of facilities such as buildings, stairs, boardwalks, bridges; knowledge of tools, equipment and materials used in building maintenance.
- Abilities and skills: Ability to estimate time and material on small projects; ability to plan, organize and prioritize tasks and adapt to changing operational demands; ability to interpret work instructions, shop drawings, plans and/or specifications.
- Personal suitability: Dependable; demonstrates integrity and respect; works well with others; communicates effectively; exercises sound judgement.
- Additional experience may receive extra credits: repairs to historic structures/buildings and/or FHBRO buildings; leadership, supervision and direction to work crews; use of asset management systems; repair and construction work on recreational facilities; operation of marine vessels; experience working for Parks Canada; maintenance and/or repair of small gas engines.
- Additional knowledge: practices & procedures used in the conservation, preservation and restoration of heritage or culturally significant buildings, artifacts, structures and/or landforms.
