As we continue expanding our footprint across the Mid-Atlantic region, we’re looking for a driven and detail-oriented Project Engineer to support the planning, coordination, and execution of complex civil construction projects.

Job Summary

The Project Engineer supports the planning, coordination, and execution of heavy civil construction projects, serving as a key link between field operations and project management. This role is responsible for helping ensure that project schedules, budgets, materials, and documentation remain aligned with construction progress and contractual requirements.

Working closely with Project Managers, Superintendents, and field teams, the Project Engineer assists in tracking production, managing project data, coordinating materials and subcontractors, and maintaining accurate project documentation. This role plays a critical part in ensuring projects are delivered safely, efficiently, and in accordance with design specifications, schedules, and company standards.

The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced environment, can manage multiple priorities, and is comfortable working across both office and field settings. Flexibility is required, including occasional overtime or extended hours based on project demands.

Duties & Responsibilities

As a Project Engineer, you’ll be the nerve center of project operations, connecting on-site execution with budget, schedule, and design expectations. You’ll track costs, manage progress, and ensure communication between office and field stays strong and proactive.

Here’s what your day-to-day will look like:

  • Support project managers and superintendents across all phases of construction
  • Coordinate purchase orders and material procurement with vendors
  • Monitor production rates and project timelines through 3-week lookaheads
  • Perform real-time cost control and identify budget deviations early

    Analyze daily schedules and progress reports to maintain project alignment
  • Process material orders using Heavy Job and Foundation software
  • Review field data for accuracy and support estimating and planning teams
  • Track subcontractor payments and application progress
  • Lead internal 3

    WLA meetings and ensure stakeholder alignment
  • Maintain and organize site documentation (plans, specs, permits, logs)
  • Prepare detailed cost-to-complete reports for financial forecasting
  • Propose process improvements to enhance department and project efficiency
  • Enforce company safety protocols and maintain project compliance
Qualifications

We’re seeking someone analytical, proactive, and fluent in both engineering and execution.

Education &

Certifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or Construction Management (Required)

Software & Systems:

  • Proficiency in Heavy Job, Foundation, Primavera P6, and Procore
  • Advanced skills in MS Excel, Word, Outlook, and Teams

Experience & Language

Skills:

  • Minimum 1 year of field experience in civil construction
  • Knowledge of underground utility, highway, and site development practices
  • Ability to speak, read, and understand English sufficiently to communicate with supervisors, clients, inspectors, and project personnel.
