Med Star Health is looking for a PRN Ultrasound Technologist to join our team at Med Star Montgomery Medical Center! This is a skilled technical position that coordinates delivery of healthcare services using ultrasound to assist in diagnosis or treatment. Work is performed under the general direction of the Lead Technologist or the Manager of Medical Imaging. - Operates and documents all aspects of ultrasound.
- Verifies procedure appropriateness and that preparation has been performed.
- Confirms patient consent and understanding of risks, benefits, alternatives, and follow‑up.
- Obtains written or informed consent when appropriate.
- Collects patient information relevant to the exam (e.g., LMP, tenderness, symptoms, allergies).
- Prepares patient for procedure, providing instruction to obtain desired results, gain cooperation, and minimize anxiety.
- Assumes responsibility for the physical and psychological needs of patients during procedures.
- Practices aseptic techniques as necessary.
- Immobilizes patients and positions them to best demonstrate anatomic areas of interest, respecting patient ability and comfort.
- Selects and operates imaging equipment and associated accessories to perform procedures.
- Monitors patients during procedures.
- Follows established procedures and protocols and produces accurate results.
- Evaluates images for technical quality, ensuring proper identification and labeling.
- Initiates basic life support action when necessary.
- Checks and orders supplies as needed.
- Participates in data collection for the department’s quality assessment and improvement plan.
- May be responsible for specific quality‑control duties in assigned areas.
- Reports equipment failures or problems to supervisor or lead person promptly.
- Assists in training and education of employees, physicians, students, and other healthcare professionals.
- Provides input for purchasing new equipment and supplies.
- Provides input for hiring or new employees through peer‑interview process.
- May help control inventory and purchasing of supplies for assigned area.
- Provides patient education as needed.
- Maintains knowledge of and observes universal precautions.
- Maintains a clean, safe, prepared work environment.
- Prepares room for procedures, cleans and sterilizes equipment, and restocks supplies.
- Acts appropriately in fire or other emergency situations to ensure safety.
- Maintains current knowledge, certification, and licensure.
- Identifies learning needs and initiates actions to address them.
- Attends continuing education programs to maintain certification and required hospital training.
- Completes mandatory requirements, certifications, and licensure within allotted time.
- Works effectively within and between departments, participating on inter‑departmental teams and committees.
- Communicates unit knowledge and shares information obtained from interdisciplinary collaboration.
- Demonstrates a constructive approach in interactions with staff, supervisors, and managers.
- Ensures protocols are followed to guarantee optimum image quality.
- Transports stable, unmonitored ED patients to and from ultrasound procedures.
- Transports stable, unmonitored IP patients as needed.
- Assists licensed practitioners with ultrasound‑guided interventional procedures.
- Assists the Medical Imaging front desk with answering phones, signing out images, processing paperwork, and scheduling procedures.
- Completion of an accredited program for Ultrasound Sonographers.
- Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS) credential.
- CPR certification.
- Experience in a hospital setting preferred.
This position has a hiring range of: USD $34.98 - USD $62.52 /hr.
