Clinical Nurse (RN) Supervisor - Emergency Department

Luminis Health is hiring a mid‑level Clinical Nurse (RN) Supervisor for the Emergency Department. This is a full‑time, on‑site role based in Lanham.

Position Objective

The Clinical Supervisor directly supervises staff and serves as a clinical expert practitioner. Responsibilities include education, staff development, and management functions to promote high‑quality, cost‑effective health care. The role also involves hiring, performance evaluation, disciplinary actions, and discharge recommendations in collaboration with Human Resources.

Essential Functions
  • Clinical Decision Making / Judgment
    • Demonstrate expert clinical knowledge and skill in the specialization of the unit.
    • Coordinate patient care throughout the continuum for areas of responsibility.
    • Act as a clinical resource for staff and work collaboratively with other disciplines for problem analysis and resolution.
    • Organize and reprioritize patient care activities based on changes.
    • Assist others in prioritizing patient care.
  • Nurse‑Patient Family Relationships
    • Provide direct patient care in a culturally, developmentally, and ethically appropriate manner.
    • Manage complex patient/family scenarios including physical, psychosocial, spiritual, and learning needs.
  • Clinical Scholarship
    • Improve processes to achieve excellence with regard to AAMC’s quality standards and benchmarks.
    • Collaborate on performance improvement initiatives and practice changes.
    • Lead staff development activities, orientation programs, and staff meetings.
    • Maintain certification in the specialty and support evidence‑based practice.
    • Serve as a member of a professional organization specific to the unit/initiative.
  • Clinical Leadership
    • Enhance skills and performance of staff through clear objectives, feedback, coaching, and development opportunities.
    • Optimize utilization of staff and manage daily operations in collaboration with unit leaders and support services.
    • Implement Joint Commission standards and participate in Tracers.
    • Chair or serve on interdisciplinary committees and service line councils.
    • Manage human resources functions including staffing, scheduling, performance evaluation, discipline, orientation, and selection.
    • Educate new staff and provide written documentation guidance.
    • Participate in fiscal management, including Par Ex oversight and equipment management.
  • Knowledge / Experience
    • Required Minimum Education: BSN
    • Preferred Education: MSN
    • Required

      Minimum Experience:

      3 years as an RN in a specialty‑related field
    • Required License / Certification:
      • Maryland RN license
      • BLS
      • Specialty certifications where applicable, to be obtained within 12 months of hire.
    Working Conditions /

    Physical Requirements

    Medium. Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Reasonable expectation of exposure to blood‑borne pathogens.

    Pay Range

    $40,000 – $60,000 USD
