Overview
The nursing graduate shall practice only under the direct supervision of a registered nurse who is physically present on the unit. They shall cosign medication transcription, medication administration, and nursing documentation; and continually observe, assist, coordinate, evaluate, and monitor the nursing graduate. The nursing graduate will use the initials NG after their name as credentials.
Responsibilities- Transcribe medication orders per written policies and procedures once skill validation has been successfully completed.
- Administer medications and controlled substances, and sign controlled substances sheets.
- Document in the medical record with the abbreviation NG.
- Perform patient assessments after the initial assessment or after the first assessment of the shift performed by a registered nurse.
- Perform and document routine procedures taught within the nursing graduate's generic nursing program, including placing nasal gastric tubes, performing urinary catheterizations, applying sterile dressings, performing blood sugar checks, and obtaining specimens.
- Graduate of an accredited registered nursing program.
- Eligible to sit for NCLEX.
- Must pass NCLEX within 120 days of application to the board of nursing; otherwise, practice is ceased immediately.
- Work only with a registered nurse in direct, physical presence and supervision.
- May not self-identify or practice as a registered nurse (RN) or licensed practical nurse (LPN).
- Cannot be considered a staff person for staffing patterns.
- Cannot accept charge responsibilities.
- Cannot perform initial patient assessment, first patient assessment of a shift, develop patient plans of care, evaluate or document patient discharge, or independently administer medications or IV therapy.

Pay Range: $25–$30 USD.
