Purpose and Scope

Functions as the hemodialysis team leader in the provision of chronic hemodialysis care and treatment. Provides day‑to‑day direction and supervision to assigned direct patient care staff. Communicates with the physician and other members of the healthcare team to interpret, adjust, and complete patient care plans. Provides safe, effective delivery of patient care in compliance with standards outlined in the facility procedure manual, as well as regulations set forth by the company, state, and federal agencies.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provide day‑to‑day guidance, support and direction to direct patient care staff, and give informal and formal performance feedback.
  • Participate in department staffing, hiring, firing, and disciplinary actions; recommend disciplinary action to Clinical Manager.
  • Ensure compliance with company and facility approved procedures and with state and federal regulations for clinics with more than 100 patients.
  • Approve or deny time or personnel schedule changes in the absence of the Clinical Manager, documenting work hours for staff.
  • Participate in patient care plan meetings and maintain current dialysis practices by attending all scheduled in‑services.
  • Train and orient staff as necessary and routinely observe and guide direct patient care staff for proper technique and adherence to policies.
  • Promote compliance with OSHA programs to maintain a safe and clean working environment.
  • Manage shift operations efficiently and effectively; conduct staff meetings at least monthly with the Clinical Manager.
  • Supervise documentation of patient information and coordinate Charge Nurse duties with Staff RNs acting in relief charge capacity.
  • Assess daily patient care needs, develop and distribute patient care assignments, and assume primary responsibility in an emergency situation.
  • Implement changes in patient care or treatment per physician’s orders, monitor patient condition, and administer medications.
  • Act as subject‑matter expert and resource for staff and supervise and participate in completion of short‑and long‑term care plans.
  • Admit new patients according to facility procedure and educate patients and families about end‑stage renal disease, dialysis therapy, diet and medication.
  • Supervise safe and effective use of all equipment involved in direct patient care, operating dialysis and emergency equipment safely.
  • Perform required testing, verification, and initial check‑lists for startup and shutdown procedures per the Technical Services Manual.
  • Assist with special projects, interviewing potential staff, and promoting efficient use of medical supplies.
  • Attend monthly Quality Assurance meetings and other assigned duties.
Physical Demands and Working Conditions

The role requires desk and personal computer work, interaction with patients, facility staff, and physicians, travel between assigned facilities, and exposure to infectious materials. Reasonable accommodations may be made for individuals with disabilities. The employer may require the Ishihara Color Blindness test as a condition of employment, but accommodations are considered if the test is not passed.

Supervision

Direct Patient Care Staff and Ward Clerk as assigned.

Education

Graduate of an accredited nursing school (R.N.) with current appropriate state licensure.

Experience and Required Skills

Minimum of 9 months of nursing experience and an additional 3 months of clinical experience in dialysis RN charge nurse roles. Must have at least one year of clinical experience and six months of dialysis experience. Supervisory or management experience preferred. Must complete training in the theory and practice of hemodialysis. Good verbal and written communication skills. Must meet all applicable state requirements.

Compensation

Annual rate: $85,000.00 - $. Non‑bonus eligible positions offer a comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, and vision insurance, a 401(k) with company match, paid time off, and parental leave. Bonus‑eligible positions offer potential performance‑based bonuses in addition to the standard benefits.
