About Hyp-tro Pro
Hyp-tro Pro is a growing division of Hyp-tro Building Services, LLC, providing professional HVAC, plumbing, electrical, maintenance, repair, and building service solutions for residential, commercial, government, and facility clients. We are seeking a skilled Journeyman HVAC Technician to support HVAC service, repairs, installations, preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and system replacements across multiple project types.
Position Summary
The Journeyman HVAC Technician will be responsible for performing HVAC work safely, efficiently, and in compliance with applicable mechanical codes, manufacturer specifications, project requirements, and company standards. This position requires hands-on HVAC experience, strong diagnostic ability, professionalism, and the ability to work independently or as part of a crew under the direction of a Lead Technician, Master HVACR Contractor, or Project Manager.
The ideal candidate is dependable, detail-oriented, safety-focused, and capable of delivering quality HVAC service in residential, commercial, multifamily, government, and occupied facility environments.
Key Responsibilities
The Journeyman HVAC Technician will:
- Perform HVAC service, repairs, replacements, installations, preventive maintenance, and troubleshooting.
- Diagnose heating, cooling, ventilation, refrigeration, and indoor air quality system issues.
- Install, repair, and maintain split systems, heat pumps, air handlers, condensers, rooftop units, furnaces, boilers, exhaust fans, thermostats, ductwork, and related HVAC equipment.
- Perform system startup, charging, testing, operational checks, and basic performance verification.
- Read and interpret work orders, mechanical drawings, equipment manuals, specifications, and job instructions.
- Ensure work is performed in compliance with applicable HVAC, mechanical, electrical, fuel gas, refrigerant, and safety requirements.
- Support permit and inspection requirements as directed by the Lead Technician or Master HVACR Contractor.
- Identify material needs, equipment needs, safety concerns, and potential change order conditions.
- Coordinate with supervisors, project managers, building engineers, property managers, inspectors, vendors, and clients when required.
- Complete accurate field documentation, including service notes, photos, equipment information, material lists, labor hours, and completion reports.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area.
- Use company tools, equipment, vehicles, refrigerants, and materials responsibly.
- Represent Hyp-tro Pro professionally in all field and client interactions.
- Active Journeyman HVACR License preferred or required based on project jurisdiction.
- Minimum of 3-5 years of HVAC field experience preferred.
- EPA Section 608 Certification required.
- Strong knowledge of residential, commercial, and facility HVAC systems.
- Ability to troubleshoot, repair, install, and maintain HVAC equipment.
- Ability to read and understand work orders, equipment manuals, specifications, and basic mechanical drawings.
- Knowledge of refrigerant handling, electrical troubleshooting, airflow, ductwork, thermostats, and system operation.
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
- Ability to pass background checks where required for government, school, commercial, or secured facilities.
- Strong communication, time management, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently or as part of a crew.
- OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification.
- NATE certification or manufacturer-specific training.
- Experience with commercial buildings, government contracts, multifamily properties, schools, or facility maintenance.
- Experience with rooftop units, heat pumps, split systems, furnaces, boilers, exhaust systems, and controls.
- Experience with preventive maintenance programs, filter changes, coil cleaning, belt replacement, and equipment inspections.
- Familiarity with mobile work orders, service software, digital reporting, and photo documentation.
