Position: Structured Cable Technician  - Closet Specialist

The Structured Cabling Technician is responsible for the installation, termination, and testing of structured cabling systems in large-scale commercial and healthcare environments.

This role combines hands-on technical expertise with field leadership and expertise of Closet Build Outs. This is a contract-to-hire opportunity with potential for long-term growth and continued technical training.

Job Responsibilities

  • Install, route, terminate, and test copper and fiber optic cabling systems, including CAT5e, CAT6, and fiber infrastructure
  • Coordinate daily project goals, track progress, and adjust plans to meet deadlines
  • Install cable pathways including J-hooks, D-rings, cable trays, and ladder racks
  • Perform cable dressing, labeling, and management in accordance with industry standards
  • Terminate cables using patch panels, jacks, keystones, and modular plugs (RJ-45)
  • Install and support network equipment such as wireless access points, fiber ONTs, and switches
  • Construct and organize IT closets, including racks, grounding systems, and patch panels
  • Read and interpret blueprints, specifications, and project documentation
  • Provide training, mentorship, and performance feedback to team members
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment at all times

Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in structured cabling, low voltage systems, or data cable installation
  • At least 5 years of experience leading teams in a foreman or supervisory capacity
  • Strong understanding of structured cabling standards and best practices (including BICSI guidelines)
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical documents
  • Proficient in low voltage cabling installation, termination, and testing
  • Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills
  • OSHA 10 certification preferred
  • Lift certifications (scissor or boom) preferred
  • Additional safety certifications (fall protection, confined space) preferred
