Job Description
As a Principal Wireless/ RF Engineer specializing in Antenna Technology at Honeywell Aerospace (HONA), you will invent novel solutions and develop defense antenna products for advanced Electronic Warfare systems covering land, sea, and air applications. Your role also supports the broader aerospace business of HONA.
You will apply expertise in electromagnetics, aperture design, simulation, development, and testing to create cutting‑edge products for warfighters and customers. Collaboration with customers to understand requirements will strengthen relationships and drive satisfaction.
Reporting directly to the Antenna Engineering Manager, you will work on site at our Lansdale, PA location on an on‑site schedule. The site hosts over a dozen antenna test facilities and develops subsystems across 3 MHz to 110 GHz ranging from narrow‑band patch antennas to 50:1 broadband, low‑power and multi‑octave high‑power applications.
Responsibilities- Invent, design, and develop RF/Microwave antennas and array elements across 3 MHz‑110 GHz, using tools such as HFSS, ADS, AWR, CST, GRASP, WIPL, and MATLAB.
- Design a wide array of antenna types (e.g., microstrip patch, horn, spiral, dipole, blade, reflector, AESA) and handle technical proposal preparation, product qualification, and production support.
- Work individually or with a team of engineers and technicians to develop antennas and serve as technology advisors for diverse products and subsystems (CNI, munitions, missile, electronic warfare, situational awareness, self‑protection, interferometers, AESA).
- Lead design, analysis, and testing of RF/Microwave antennas, hybrids, feeds, filters, and elements for varied applications.
- Document design elements, test procedures, and support mechanical engineering drafting and R&M engineering.
- Recommend and lead setup and operational testing of engineering hardware in the laboratory.
- Travel less than 10% for production support, customer meetings, and trade shows.
- Prepare and present customer support meetings such as TIMs, PDRs, and CDRs.
- Provide technical leadership for antenna capital needs and justify capital based on measurement requirements (compact range vs near‑field scanner vs far‑field anechoic chamber vs low‑frequency tapered chamber).
- Required:
- BSEE with 15 years of experience in RF/Microwave antenna design and 15 years of experience with RF measurements (VSWR, insertion loss, phase, coupling, pattern, and gain).
- MSEE with 12 years of experience in RF/Microwave antenna design and 12 years of experience with RF measurements.
- Eight years of experience operating PC using standard applications such as Word, Excel, Power Point, Project, etc.
- Access to technology controlled by U.S. export laws and eligibility for a Secret security clearance.
- Preferred:
- PhD with 10 years of experience in RF/Microwave antenna design and 10 years of experience with RF measurements.
- Design and modeling of antennas from 3 MHz to 110 GHz using HFSS, ADS, AWR, CST, GRASP, WIPL, and MATLAB.
- Materials and bonding experience.
- Knowledge of RF system considerations (path loss, cascade noise figure, intercept point).
- Strong analytical, test, writing, and interpersonal skills, including multitasking and adjusting to changing priorities.
- Ability to lead technical teams, generate white papers, technical proposals, and basis‑of‑estimate documents for advanced bidding.
- Excellent presentation skills for internal and customer meetings, reviews, and updates.
Must be a U.S. Citizen due to contractual requirements.
Benefits- Employer‑subsidized medical, dental, vision, and life insurance.
- Short‑term and long‑term disability coverage.
