To provide instructional and leadership services that prepare students for success as educators. The
Job DescriptionTo provide instructional and leadership services that prepare students for success as educators. The Teacher Academy of Maryland (TAM) is an MSDE Career and Technical Education (CTE) completer program that develops students and creates a pipeline for high school students aspiring to become educators.
Responsibilities EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:Provide instruction and course/program management at the high school level that focuses on teaching theory, child development, and curriculum design, often culminating in an internship and potential college credits.
Teach and support students through the rigorous TAM program which includes the following college-preparatory sequence:
- Child and Adolescent Development:
Examines the physical, cognitive, social, and emotional development of children from birth through adolescence. - Teaching as a Profession:
Introduces the history, structure, and ethics of the teaching profession, as well as current trends and philosophies. - Foundations of Curriculum and Instruction:
Focuses on lesson planning, learning styles, and classroom management strategies. - Education Academy Internship:
Provides a hands-on, mentored experience in an elementary, middle, or high school classroom where students observe and teach lessons.
Demonstrate knowledge and implement a “hands‑on” approach to critical thinking and problem‑solving skills needed for current and future educators.
Provide instruction in teamwork, communications, problem solving, decision making and technology which relates to workplace and higher education skills needed for future educators.
Work with Work‑based Learning Coordinators and post‑secondary institutions to develop and maintain opportunities which prepare students for internships and potential college credit. Internships for students typically take place in an educational setting such as elementary, middle, and high schools or daycare centers.
Prepare instructional materials, maintain equipment, and manage materials of instruction which maximize the resources needed to deliver effectively a diverse instructional program.
Demonstrate an understanding of and lead student experiences in related student organizations.
Contribute to the mission of the school by striving to attain school improvement plan and career completer goals.
Create an instructional environment that is conducive to the intellectual, physical, social, and emotional development of students.
Communicate standards, achievements, and deficiencies to students and parents. Meet with students and parents.
Maintain complete and accurate student academic, attendance, and disciplinary records. Monitor and assess students’ academic progress.
Collaborate with school administrators, other teachers, para educators, parents, and community members in the education of students.
Attend staff meetings. Serve on various committees.
Performs other duties as assigned.
QualificationsMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education, Training And Experience
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree.
Licenses And CertificatesPossession of a Maryland Educator Certificate appropriate to the area of assignment.
ORPossession of, or eligibility for, a Maryland Educator License appropriate to the area of assignment.
Knowledge, Skills, And AbilitiesKnowledge of the principles and practices of pedagogy. Knowledge of curriculum, effective instructional techniques, instructional materials and equipment.
Skill in preparing, implementing lesson plans and instructing students.
Skill in supervising students and managing behavior. Skill in communicating with students, their parents, administrators, and others. Knowledge of and skill in the use of database, internet, spreadsheet, word processing, and related applications.
Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with students, parents and staff. Ability to effectively maintain confidential information.
