Position Summary: The French High School Teacher is responsible for developing students' understanding, appreciation, and proficiency in the French language and Hispanic cultures. The teacher designs engaging lessons aligned with curriculum standards, promotes cross-cultural awareness, and creates a supportive classroom environment where students can develop strong communication skills in reading, writing, listening, and speaking Spanish.
District Summary
The William Penn School District is located in southeastern Delaware County and serves approximately 5,000 students who reside in the boroughs of Ardmore, Colwyn, Darby, East Lansdowne, Lansdowne, and Yeadon. We share a collective vision to educate, nurture, and empower all students to become career- and/or college-ready.
Key Responsibilities & Essential Duties:
- Plan and execute developmentally appropriate lessons in the assigned content area(s); differentiate instruction for all students; implement IEP accommodations and modifications.
- Maintain all assigned courses to high standards, adjust lessons and assessments as necessary.
- Gather resources that assist in addressing/incorporating state standards into lessons, instructional materials, and assessments.
- Regularly monitor and maintain student attendance expectations.
- Monitor and analyze assessment data to support informed instructional decision-making (including, but not limited to, PVAAS, Keystone, and PSSA).
- Provide timely feedback to students to support them in reaching content mastery goals/targets.
- Participate in proctoring state-mandated testing, school field trips, community outreach, and marketing events.
- Collaborate effectively with department and cohort peers to ensure academic goals are appropriate and instructional strategies are effective to reach identified student outcomes.
- Maintain accurate records and information in student information systems in accordance with established procedures.
- Knowledge/awareness of one's own cultural identity and how this influences behavior, and the desire to learn about the cultural identity of others.
- Ability to establish and nurture an environment that promotes cultural competence and equitable treatment of staff, students, and patrons of the District.
- Ability to understand and hold self and others accountable for promoting and attaining the goals as outlined in Focus Forward & Beyond.
- Ability to recognize that each person is a unique individual, even as we celebrate their group cultural heritage.
- Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging French lessons that meet state and district curriculum standards.
- Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse learning styles and needs of students at various proficiency levels (French I-AP or IB, depending on assignment).
- Design and administer formative and summative assessments to evaluate student progress and adjust instruction accordingly.
- Foster a positive classroom environment that encourages participation, respect, and curiosity about language and culture.
- Integrate technology and authentic materials (music, film, literature, media) into lessons to enhance learning.
- Encourage students to use French in real-world contexts and promote cultural understanding.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with District staff and administrators, students, parents or guardians, outside agencies, and the public, in a multi-ethnic, multicultural, multilingual environment.
- Ability to receive and implement feedback to improve practice and systems.
- lor's Degree from an accredited college or university in French, World Language, or related field
- Valid Pennsylvania Certification:
French P-12, Foreign/World Language PK-12, or a confirmed pathway to certification in one of those areas
- A Master's Degree in Education or a related field of study
- 2+ years of experience teaching in education environments
