School Safety Officer (District-Wide)

Compensation: $20/HR

Position Summary:

The ideal candidate will support the District's mission and vision and will have the primary responsibility of providing school safety support services that foster safe, secure, and supportive learning environments for William Penn School District students.

Summary:

The William Penn School District is located in southeastern Delaware County and serves approximately 5,000 students residing in the boroughs of Aldan, Colwyn, Darby, East Lansdowne, Lansdowne, and Yeadon. We share a collective vision to educate, nurture, and empower all students to become career and/or college-ready.

Key Responsibilities & Essential Duties:
  • Works closely with the building administration in the coordination of the overall safety of the school and premises
  • Supports district employees with daily tasks
  • Patrols district buildings and grounds to prevent fire, criminal/illegal activity, and illegal entry
  • Completes and submits written reports of security/safety violations and action taken
  • Must be able to interact professionally and positively with staff and students
  • Assists with the de-escalation of student disturbances
  • Monitors student behavior during and between assigned periods and at student events (e.g., lunchroom, classrooms, detention, dances, home games, etc.) to ensure student compliance with established guidelines, maintain a safe and positive learning environment, and secure the facility
  • Ensures a smooth traffic flow of students through the hallways, assisting students with on-time arrival to class and to assigned locations
  • Ensures a smooth flow of transportation for the arrival and departure of students and staff. Removes disruptive students from classes when needed
  • Assists the professional staff, police, and emergency personnel in handling emergencies or disruptive situations
  • Reports any discipline infractions, criminal violations, or safety/security concerns to the principal
  • Displays ethical and professional behavior in working with students, parents, school personnel, and outside agencies associated with the school
  • Establish positive working relationships with administrators, faculty, staff, students, and the community.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions, exercise good judgment, prioritize tasks, and communicate effectively
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor or their designee

  • Ability to effectively present one-on-one and in small group situations to staff, parents, students, and administrators.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals; ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent, and to draw and interpret bar graphs
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed instructions, whether written or oral, by uninvolved parties
  • Regularly required to sit, walk, or stand; use hands to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls.
  • Frequently required to reach with hands and arms; occasionally squat, stoop, and kneel.
