Job/FLSA Status: Full‑Time, Exempt
Reports to: Principal and/or Designee
Position summary: To help students achieve maximum benefits from the educational opportunities offered to them in the schools.
Role Qualifications- Hold a current Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) or Educator License with Stipulations (ELS)
- PEL/ELS must be endorsed in Mathematics
- PEL/ELS must be endorsed in Bilingual Education (Spanish) or English as a Second Language
- Remains current regarding ideas and methods that can improve instruction.
- Meets and instructs assigned classes in the designated locations and times.
- Adheres to published policies and procedures of the District.
- Assesses the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provides progress reports as required.
- Works cooperatively with other school personnel in the identification, diagnosis, and remediation of students with specialized needs.
- Protects students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
- Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required.
- Attends staff meetings and serves on committees per contract.
- Assists in selecting books, equipment, and other instructional materials.
- Performs other duties as requested by building administration.
- Plans a program of study that meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of students.
- Creates a classroom environment conducive to learning.
- Prepares for classes and provides written evidence of preparation upon request.
- Guides learning toward curriculum goals, establishes clear objectives, and communicates them to students and parents.
- Utilizes best practices to enhance instruction with engagement and cooperative learning techniques.
- Provides instruction supporting the District's philosophy of education.
- Uses a variety of instructional techniques, media, and technology appropriate to location and student needs.
- Initiates contact with parents and responds promptly and professionally to concerns.
- Establishes classroom behavioral expectations based on clear goals.
- Maintains professional decorum when managing behavior problems.
- Consistently and fairly addresses classroom disruptions.
- Use appropriate behavioral strategies.
- Assists administration in implementing policies governing student conduct.
- Physical demands: standing, walking, sitting, handling objects; occasional lifting up to 25 lbs; required vision abilities (close, distance, color, peripheral, depth, focus adjustment).
- Work environment: moderate noise level.
- Ten‑month work year (180 days)
- Starting annual salary between $59,158 and $97,829 depending on education and verified experience
- Teachers Retirement System of Illinois (TRS) pension
- 55‑minute duty‑free lunch (40 minutes on Wednesdays)
- 10 sick days and 5 personal days for new hires
- Generous fringe benefits per current AFT/IFT Local 683 Agreement
- Performance evaluation per AFT/IFT Local 683 Agreement and Licensed Staff Evaluation Procedures
