Position: Quality Tech 1 2nd Shift

Quality Tech 1 2nd Shift – Michael Foods

Location: Lansing, IL – Our plant pasteurizes raw eggs to remove harmful bacteria, producing safer products for the food service industry.

Pay Range: $18.00 – $21.60 per hour.

Responsibilities
  • Assumes personal responsibility to insure a safe and healthy workplace for everyone; adheres to all safety policies, procedures, and incorporates safety and health in all jobs and tasks.
  • Adheres to quality work practices, follows GMPs, maintains sanitary conditions, and ensures product quality is maintained; reports to management any conditions or practices that may adversely affect food safety and quality.
  • Performs periodic in‑process quality checks: physical and chemical lab testing, coding, weight, packaging integrity, labeling, temperature, sensory, document review, etc., to verify compliance with customer and MFI specifications and all associated regulations.
  • Inspects and samples incoming ingredients, summit ting for internal lab testing as required.
  • Assists in drafting, revising, and maintaining plant standard operating procedures.
  • Acts as a liaison between Production, Distribution, Sanitation, Maintenance, and the Quality Department.
  • Participates in plant food safety/quality inspections, in‑process inspections, mock recalls, label audits, HACCP audits.
  • Verifies proper set‑up of production lines at start‑up and shift change—printer set‑up (coding), packaging materials, labeling, quality limits, etc.
  • Reviews sanitary condition of production lines prior to start‑up, verifying fillers sterilization limits, performing ATP (adenosine triphosphate) and environmental swab, and following up sanitation procedures after downtime requiring maintenance activity.
  • Communicates quality issues with Production and Quality Management and assists in root‑cause analysis and implementation of corrective actions where appropriate.
  • Performs investigative environmental swabbing of critical production equipment/areas as a troubleshooting guide.
  • Assists in investigations in response to customer concerns or other quality‑related deviations to determine root cause and appropriate corrective actions.
  • Assists in the management of quality hold activities, including non‑conforming product inventories.
  • Ensures lab equipment, fridges, and thermometers are properly maintained and calibrated.
  • Maintains and follows MFI micro‑sample and shelf‑life study programs.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Education: One‑year certificate from college or technical school or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Experience: Language skills to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals; write routine reports and correspondence; speak effectively before groups, customers, vendors, or employees.

    Skills:

    Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals; compute rates, ratios, and percentages; draw and interpret bar graphs.
  • Reasoning Ability: Apply common sense to carry out instructions in written, oral, or diagram form; solve problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
