Machine Operator 1 2nd Shift

Michael Foods, Inc. is a leader in the food processing and distribution industry with businesses in egg products, refrigerated grocery, and potato products.

Location

Plant located in Lansing, IL. The facility pasteurizes raw eggs to remove harmful bacteria, producing safe products for the food service industry.

Responsibilities
  • Assist in training all processing and production personnel in the assigned department. Update training for existing personnel when equipment changes or new procedures are implemented.
  • Help provide a safe work environment for all personnel and ensure that production complies with food‑safety standards established by Michael Foods, Inc.
  • Work with supervisors to maintain sanitation standards of the facility.
  • Assume personal responsibility to ensure a safe and healthy workplace, adhere to all safety policies and procedures, and incorporate safety and health in all jobs and tasks.
  • Give work direction to packaging operators and utility people to organize their time during set‑up, charge overs, and run time, ensuring accurate, quick, and safe operations.
  • Coordinate with processors on system readiness, line operation, product volume, and line sterilization to meet production requirements set by the company.
  • Maintain effective working relationships between all department members and other areas.
  • Verify accurate and complete operator downtime, temperature charts, and other documentation before turning it over to the shift supervisor to maintain accurate records for the company and USDA.
  • Communicate with Pasteurizer and Packaging leads to ensure efficient product flow and prevent lost production time to the pasteurizers.
  • Manage the incoming flow of pasteurized eggs, maintaining first‑in, first‑out for any egg that must be off‑stacked to prevent timing out.
  • Communicate with co‑workers at shift change to ensure accurate transfer of information on production and scheduling.
  • Adhere to quality work practices, follow GMPs, maintain sanitary conditions, and ensure product quality is maintained; report any conditions that may adversely affect food safety or quality to management.
  • Operate the Pelbo machine according to supervisor direction.
  • Monitor automatic mechanical loading of individual flats onto the conveyor to ensure the machine does not jam.
  • Oversee the entire procedure to prevent jams from the time a flat enters the line until it exits and stacks at the other end of the machine.
  • Perform cleaning/sanitizing of machines when needed.
  • Adhere to safe work practices, follow GMPs, maintain sanitary conditions, and ensure product quality is maintained; report any conditions that may adversely affect food safety, food quality, or personnel safety to management.
  • Follow all PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) requirements and safety procedures.
  • Follow all GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices) procedures, including washing hands, throughout the day.
  • Follow all HACCP (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points) guidelines.
  • Follow all SOP (Standard Operating Procedures) and SSOP (Sanitation Standard Operating Procedures); keep all records updated.
  • Follow all USDA (United States Department of Agriculture) regulations and guidelines.
  • Report and fill out work orders on maintenance issues related to productivity, food safety, quality, and human safety to maintenance.
  • Encourage suggestions from employees that will improve productivity, quality, and/or reduce production costs.
  • Maintain regular and consistent attendance.
  • Adhere to all safety policies and procedures.
  • Responsible for food safety and food quality of MFI products.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Education and Experience Required
  • High school diploma, general education degree (GED), or equivalent.
  • Ability to bend, stoop, and reach while lifting and carrying stacks of empty flats.
  • Ability to repeatedly lift up to 30 lbs.
  • Ability to follow verbal instructions.
  • Ability to work indoors in a wet and humid environment and stand on hard surfaces.
  • Ability to travel stairs.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Good hand/eye coordination.
  • Basic mechanical abilities.
  • Ability to perform multiple tasks simultaneously.
