Position: Accountant 9-12 - State Budget Office

Overview

State Budget Office is responsible for coordinating all aspects of the state budget, including development of the Governor’s Executive Budget recommendation, monitoring of the budget to ensure continued fiscal balance, and other budgetary analysis functions. Learn more higan.gov/budget.

About This Position

Statewide Integrated Governmental Management Applications (SIGMA) is housed within State Budget Office and is the backbone for the State of Michigan government operations, supporting budget, financial management, procurement, timekeeping and labor cost allocation, inventory management, and grant/project accounting.

The role of SIGMA support staff is to support the daily operations of the system, working towards continuous improvement of SIGMA’s functionality, providing training and help desk resources to users.

Responsibilities
  • Managing the SIGMA Financial mailbox and providing assistance and training to helpdesk staff on best practices for consistent support and security across all financial calls and emails.
  • Responsible for reviewing and developing financial training manuals and job aids.
  • Reviewing best practices to support SIGMA fraud prevention and detection controls in coordination with SIGMA Procurement and Vendor Center of Excellence (COE) and the Security Monitoring team.
Education

Possession of a bachelor's degree with at least 24 semester (36 term) credits in accounting.

Experience

Accountant 9:
No specific type or amount is required.

Accountant 10:
One year of professional experience performing or auditing the systematic classification and evaluation of accounting data and the preparation of related financial and managerial reports equivalent to an Accountant 9 or Auditor 9.

Accountant P11:
Two years of professional experience performing or auditing the systematic classification and evaluation of accounting data and the preparation of related financial and managerial reports, including one year equivalent to an Accountant 10, Auditor 10, or Assistant Auditor General 10.

Accountant 12:
Three years of professional experience performing or auditing the systematic classification and evaluation of accounting data and the preparation of related financial and managerial reports, including one year equivalent to an Accountant P11, Auditor P11, or Assistant Auditor General P11.

The "Salary" listed is a range that reflects the minimum rate through the maximum rate of the position. Based on education and experience, candidates will be reviewed to determine what level they are qualified for.

Note:

Experience is considered professional if the job required a bachelor's degree.

Alternate Credentials

Possession of a Certified Public Accountant certification (CPA) may be substituted for one year of Accountant P11 experience.

OR

Possession of a Certified Management Accountant certification (CMA) may be substituted for six months of Accountant P11 experience.
