Polk and Associates, P.L.C., with offices in Bingham Farms, Ann Arbor and St. Clair Shores is a full-service C.P.A. firm providing audit, accounting, tax and consulting services for businesses in southeastern Michigan. Specialty areas of practice are real estate and healthcare. In addition to traditional accounting and tax services, a vast array of consulting services are provided to our clients.

The Bookkeeper position is an essential part of our accounting and client advisory services team, responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, including transactions, payroll processing, and reconciling bank statements. The ideal candidate will have a keen eye for detail and a strong understanding of accounting principles to ensure the accuracy and efficiency of our accounting services on behalf of our clients.

Key Responsibilities
  • Financial Transactions: Efficiently record, input or download day‑to‑day financial transactions and accurately complete the coding and posting process, ensuring accuracy in the books.
  • Reconciliation: Reconcile general ledger accounts including bank accounts; discover and correct discrepancies found in records.
  • Payroll and Sales Tax: Process live and after‑the‑fact payroll and sales tax in a timely manner, ensuring accurate calculation of wages, tax with holdings, company contributions and sales tax liabilities. Great attention to detail to ensure filings and payments are timely prepared.
  • Accounts Payable and Receivable: Manage accounts payable (including processing of check payments) and receivable activities per client engagement scope, including invoicing, tracking payments.
  • Financial Reporting: Prepare financial reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing account information and trends.
  • Software Proficiency & Curiosity: Utilize technology tools to maintain records and run reports, ensuring data integrity and security.
  • Travel: There may be occasional travel to a select number of client sites within the southeast Michigan area. This is expected to be a temporary requirement.
Qualifications
  • Education: Associate or Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field preferred.
  • Experience: At least 2 years of proven accounting experience, ideally within a similar environment. Experience with in a real estate or health care office a plus. Ability to prepare, review and understand a financial statement.
  • Technical

    Skills:

    Proficient in accounting software (e.g., Quick Books Online, Quick Books Desktop, Xero, or Accounting CS) and Microsoft Office Suite. Technical skills with automated cloud‑based transaction technology tools (e.g., ), Quick Books certification a plus.
  • Attention to Detail: High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Time Management: Ability to prioritize tasks and manage time effectively to meet deadlines.
  • Communication: Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Job Type: Full‑time

Pay: $50,000.00 - $60,000.00 per year
