Position: Permits Clerk 30 (BSO)
The Economic, Development & Planning Department is seeking a Permits Clerk within the Building Safety Division. This position will perform a wide range of related services regarding the issuance of building and trade permits for building, electrical, plumbing, mechanical, and demolition projects. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS & TRAINING:

This position requires that the applicant placed in this position be able to be bonded under terms of the City's blanket bond. Therefore, applicants cannot have committed any dishonest acts before, or after, placement in this position. Applicants must authorize the release of any information from appropriate agencies regarding the applicant's criminal history.

IDEAL CANDIDATES WILL POSSESS THE FOLLOWING:

* High School Diploma or GED and at least six (6) months of training beyond High School; AND

* At least one (1) year of diversified office clerical experience, which includes customer service experience and the use of word processing and spreadsheet software.

* An equivalent combination of training and experience may be considered.

* Cash handling experience required.

* Experience with BS&A preferred.

ESSENTIAL POSITION FUNCTIONS INLCUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:

* Serves as the permit clerk for the office and performs a wide range of related services regarding the issuance of building and trade permits and other related functions.

* Processes and manages permit applications for building, electrical, plumbing, mechanical, and demolition projects.

* Enters permit applications into the computer, verifies license, and ensures applications are complete, fees are collected, and records are accurately maintained.

* Processes paper and electronic building, electrical, mechanical, plumbing, demo and sign applications. Notarize homeowner permit applications.

* Manages a multi-line phone system, responding to inquiries from homeowners, contractors, and tenants with accurate guidance on permit requirements and procedures. May refer customers to the appropriate Building Safety staff.

* Assists inspectors, contractors, and homeowners with residential projects.

* Operates a cash register; collects payments at the front counter, including cash, checks, and credit card transactions. Verifies all fees are accurate before processing any payment.
