Workers for Opportunity seeks a Coalitions Director to help us build and leverage a broad network of allies for market-based labor reforms across the country.
Workers for Opportunity (WFO ) promotes an American workplace rooted in mutually beneficial relationships between workers and employers, defined by government neutrality, free enterprise, and freedom of choice. The Coalitions Director will develop and implement strategies that connect the relationships and resources of supporters with our activities to advance worker freedom policies. ResponsibilitiesBuild and cultivate networks of leaders in areas including but not limited to national and state policy organizations, business organizations and associations, executive branches and state legislatures.
Develop strategies to leverage these networks in WFO government affairs and media activities.
Identify and represent WFO at national conferences as well as in policy meetings in key states.
Work with WFO’s events team to develop educational programming that will proactively build our pipeline of worker freedom champions in state legislatures.
Work with WFO’s communications team to create digital and other content that connects with our supporters and allies.
Partner with WFO’s fundraising team to secure charitable support.
QualificationsDeep commitment to free-market solutions for public policy challenges. Must be able to persuasively convey complex policy positions and principle-based values.
Entrepreneurial mindset with strong leadership skills. Willing to figure out how to make new initiatives work well even if an established playbook isn’t available. Design the strategy, own it, and get it done.
Extroverted personality that is energized by talking with people. Refined social skills with a strong sense of discretion.
Exceptional research, analytical, writing, and communication skills. Meticulous attention to detail.
Proficient in database management and e-mail marketing.
Personnel management experience preferred. While this role will start out as a single position, this person may eventually supervise a small team focused on coalitions and events.
Previous employment in the public sector or a unionized workplace is a plus but not required.

Workers for Opportunity is a multi-state project of the Mackinac Center, a nonpartisan research and educational institute dedicated to improving quality of life by promoting sound answers to state and local policy questions. We advance liberty and opportunity for all people by developing free-market policies, challenging government overreach and influencing public opinion. Our goal is to persuade policymakers to act in the broad public interest rather than narrow private or government interests.
The Mackinac Center is a nonprofit organization with 45 full-time employees, a 50-member Board of Scholars and an annual operating budget of $13 million.
This full-time position reports to the Executive Director of Workers for Opportunity. It will require interstate travel of at least 50% over the course of a year, potentially reaching 70% during legislative and conference seasons. A strong preference will be given to Michigan-based candidates. Candidates outside of Michigan will be considered with the understanding that regular travel to Mackinac’s Midland headquarters is expected.
Evening and weekend work may be required on short notice when state legislatures are in session.
