Job Summary

To supervise and oversee the processing of payroll and state retirement.

Education & Experience

Bachelor's degree in Business, Accounting, or related field and four (4) years of related experience or equivalent combination of education/experience.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Knowledge of all payroll practices and tax laws.
  • Knowledge of customer service procedures and standards.
  • Skill in the use of personal computers and related software applications.
  • Verbal and written communication skills.
  • Interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work within strict deadlines.
  • Ability to perform basic supervisory functions.
Responsibilities
  • Supervises the activities of employees engaged in processing payroll.
  • Prepares federal tax, state tax, and state retirement and optional retirement deposits and files monthly, quarterly, and annual reports and reconciliations.
  • Investigates and responds to inquiries regarding payments, wages, and deductions.
  • Ensures compliance with applicable laws and policies.
  • Collaborates with timekeepers to resolve payroll issues.
  • Prepares revisions to payroll operations manual.
  • Recommends changes in policies and procedures to improve the payroll process.
  • Serves as payroll manager in the absence of the manager.

Physical and Environmental Demands

Requires occasional working hours significantly beyond regularly scheduled hours, frequent work produced subject to precise measures of quantity and quality, occasional bending, occasional lifting and carrying up to 10 pounds, occasional crouching/stooping, occasional kneeling, occasional reaching, constant sitting, occasional standing, occasional twisting, and occasional walking. Occasional – up to 20%, frequent – 21% to 50%, constant – 51% or more.
