Position: Senior Maintenance Supervisor 37 - Sewer

The City of Lansing's Public Service Department is seeking a Senior Maintenance Supervisor to join their team in the Operations & Maintenance Division. IDEAL

CANDIDATE WILL POSSESS THE FOLLOWING:
  • Associate degree and or bachelor's degree highly preferred, High School Diploma or GED required as a minimum with substantial experience.
  • Two to four (2–4) years of experience performing public works duties related to sewer system operations and maintenance.
  • Two (2) years of supervisory experience in a public works environment.
  • Two (2) years of experience in salt and plow truck usage during winter maintenance operations, clearing streets.
SPECIAL REQUIRMENTS & TRAINING:
  • On call, as scheduled, during non-normal working hours
  • May require overtime or weekend work for emergencies
  • Must possess and maintain a valid State of Michigan Driver’s License
  • Must be confined space entry certified within 60 days of taking the position
ESSENTIAL POSITION FUNCTIONS INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:
  • Supervises crews and coordinates activities of workers engaged in a wide range of sewer installation, inspection, cleaning and repair needs which include sanitary and storms ewers, chambers, siphons, ditches, manholes and catch basins.
  • Participates in the development of annual work plans for functional areas of multiple crews in support of the development of the annual budget identifying and reviewing capital improvements, staffing levels, equipment requirements, and long-term considerations with respect to projected changing needs of the infrastructure and funding levels.
  • Ensure proper equipment and materials are available for all construction, maintenance, and repair activities. Rents or borrows special equipment as needed for maintenance and construction work from other City departments or private companies.
  • Ensures crew members receive training in the safe operation of equipment, and all work is performed incompliance with safety procedures, MIOSHA regulations, MMUTCD and MDOT standards. Ensures work crews follow general safety rules and procedures and that all work activities conform to safety requirements, City policies, any/all applicable local, state, and federal laws and regulations.
  • Oversee the use and schedules of daily maintenance of a wide range of equipment used in the construction, maintenance, and repair activities to ensure its safe and efficient operation.
  • Ensure proper equipment and materials are available, assign specific duties and inspect the progress of the work.
  • Diagnose sewer systems for repair and cleaning needs and develop plans and supervises required actions.
  • Reviews and interprets sewer televising videos.
  • Manages emergency pumping operations for bypass and flood control operations.
  • Responds to complaints from citizens, diagnosing the sewer system, and initiating actions to restore service.
  • Oversee MISSDIG operations for the City sewer lines.
  • Update plans for conditions found in the field different from what is documented.
  • Works closely with Engineering Division to evaluate and determine maintenance needs of City sewers and related infrastructure repairs and upgrades.
  • Determines work requirements by using technical plans, City policies, material specifications and targeted response timelines.
  • Participates in the development of an annual work plan for budget operations and forecasting future requirements of personnel, equipment, technology, and capital improvements to infrastructure.
