Position Summary:

Wayland Union Schools is seeking an enthusiastic and caring individual to support our early childhood programs. This position may provide support in our GSRP preschool classrooms and/or Little Wildcat Club childcare program, depending on program needs.

The Early Childhood Assistant/Childcare Staff member will help provide a safe, nurturing, inclusive, and engaging environment for young children. This position works collaboratively with teachers and childcare staff to support children's learning, development, social-emotional growth, and overall well-being.

Qualifications:
  • High school diploma required.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Childcare health and safety training required.
  • Degree, certification, or coursework in early childhood education or a child-related field OR valid Child Development Associate (CDA) credential required.
  • Previous experience working with young children preferred.
  • Current CPR/First Aid certification required as applicable to program/grant requirements.
  • Must be willing to complete required professional development and training.
  • Must be able to meet all applicable Michigan childcare licensing and program requirements.
Responsibilities & Duties:
  • Support Lead and Associate Teachers in implementing curriculum, lesson plans, and developmentally appropriate learning activities.
  • Supervise and actively engage children during play, meals, rest time, structured learning activities, outdoor play, and childcare programming.
  • Assist in creating a warm, inclusive, safe, and engaging classroom and childcare environment.
  • Plan and facilitate age-appropriate activities, including arts and crafts, games, sensory activities, and outdoor play.
  • Support classroom and childcare management strategies that encourage positive behavior and emotional growth.
  • Foster positive relationships with children, families, and staff and promote a sense of community and trust.
  • Assist with observing and documenting children's development in accordance with program guidelines.
  • Collaborate with the teaching team to support individual learning and developmental needs.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, safe, and healthy learning environment.
  • Communicate effectively and professionally with children, families, teachers, and other staff.
  • Participate in staff meetings, professional development, and required training.
  • Maintain compliance with all applicable district, state, and federal childcare licensing, safety, and program requirements.
  • Follow requirements established by the Michigan Department of Education, Bureau of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (LARA), Michigan Department of Lifelong Education, Advancement, and Potential (MiLEAP), and GSRP, as applicable.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Early Childhood Services, GSRP Supervisor, Early Childhood Specialist, or Superintendent.
Terms of Employment:

The position schedule is tentatively 6:15-11:45am and 3:45-5:45pm, starting 26-27 school year .
