Senior Estimator

Overview

The Christman Company is looking for a Senior Estimator in Michigan, located out of any of our regional offices in Grand Rapids, Lansing or Detroit. As an employee-owner, you will have opportunities to build more in your professional career.

As a Senior Estimator, you'll work closely with the Preconstruction team in managing specific project assignments while focusing on cost leadership strategies for our clients. You'll provide leadership in preparing estimate deliverables, reviewing project plans and specifications, and the overall coordination of internal estimating resources to execute projects.

• Supervise, check work, and mentor Estimators and Estimating Engineers.
• Develop and oversee conceptual estimates for assigned projects, support planning and engineering in the development of all levels of estimates, and collect and analyze close-out and benchmark data.
• Lead major estimating efforts.
• Develop and clarify estimate reports.
• Cultivate strong subcontractor knowledge and relations.
• Present estimating results to clients and stakeholders.
• Demonstrate knowledge of all civil, structural, and architectural trades.
• Be competent at conceptual and detailed levels of estimating.
• Provide value engineering leadership and tracking.
• Drive deadlines and achieve results.
• Master the scope review process.
• Master estimating software programs including on-screen take-off.
• Consult with architects and engineers on project parameters.
• Ensure database-pricing updates are completed.

• Required experience, knowledge, and skills for this role include:
• Bachelor's degree in construction management, Civil Engineering, Engineering, Business, Finance, or a related field.
• Eight (8) years of estimating experience in construction or related field.
• OR Equivalent combination of the above education, training, and experience.

Preferred Education and Experience

• Ten (10) years of commercial construction experience.
• Capability to complete large Construction Management (CM) and General Contractor (GC) Construction Management at Risk and Design Build projects and large complex competitive bid projects.

• Independent sales strengths for presentations and project pursuits.
• History of successfully working relationships with the internal operation team and externally with owners, architects/engineers, and subcontractors.
• Attention to detail: observant, accurate, and thorough.
• Dedicated to meeting the expectations and requirements of internal and external customers, establishing and maintaining effective relationships with customers, and earning their trust and respect.
• Makes good decisions based on a mix of analysis, experience, and judgment.
• Provides advice and solutions to others.
• Strong computer knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
