Construction Estimator

Overview

Barton Malow is currently seeking an Estimator to join our Industrial Group based in the Southfield, Michigan office. This individual will prepare estimates and lead preconstruction teams for project pursuits, using hard-bid, design-build and conceptual estimating methods for small to large scale projects in the Energy, Automotive, Manufacturing and Industrial markets.

• Prepare estimates for a variety of contract types including lump sum, CM, design build, EPC
• Interact and effectively communicate with clients and team members
• Perform and/or lead others to complete typical estimating facets such as:
  • Detailed quantity take-offs and organizing the quantities with unit pricing in production of an estimate
  • Solicit bids and quotes from subcontractors and suppliers
  • Communicate effectively with subcontractors and suppliers to clarify pricing information
  • Prepare estimate formats in such areas as general conditions, general bidding, quantity takeoffs, and bid analysis
• Write detailed scopes of work for construction contracts to be implemented by Project Delivery
• Work with Project Delivery in the Procurement of trade work
• Prepare outline schedules for proposed projects
• Assist staff members with various special projects related to overall preconstruction and estimating efforts
• Mentor and assist in the development of less experienced personnel
• Develop estimates utilizing Excel and Win Est

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management or equivalent professional experience
• 3+ years’ experience in construction estimating with a Construction Management or General Contracting firm
• Market experience preferred in automotive, power & energy, light and heavy industrial, but not required
• Experience in developing competitive design build and hard bid
• Experience in effectively leading preconstruction teams to win work
• Experience in developing and implementing value engineering solutions to drive down project costs for the Owner while maintaining a high level of construction quality
• Working knowledge of trades: scope, time frames, field execution and potential risks/exposures
• Understanding of estimating processes and delivery methods
