Position Title: Program Assistant

Unique in the nation, the Michigan Association for Local Public Health was founded in 1985 as a private, non-profit, 501-C3 state association. The Association is organized to represent Michigan's 45 city, county, and district health departments before the state and federal legislative and executive branches of government. MALPH's mission to strengthen Michigan's system of local public health departments and local governing boards.

This Program Assistant will contribute to the success of the Michigan Association for Local Public Health (MALPH) by ensuring the association plans and delivers high-quality learning opportunities and develops resources that can continue to support Michigan's environmental health workforce. Working with MALPH and MALEHA leadership, local health departments, MDARD, the National Environmental Health Association (NEHA), subject-matter experts, training partners, and participating sanitarians, the program assistant will be responsible for training coordination, partner engagement, logistics planning, communication, and evaluation of training.

• Coordinate implementation of the Michigan Food Sanitarian Learning Initiative work plan, timeline, and project deliverables.
• Maintain project schedules and ensure activities and deliverables remain on track.
• Coordinate regular planning meetings with MALPH, MALEHA, and other project partners.
• Serve as a central point of communication among project partners, trainers, participants, and local health departments.
• Maintain project records, participant information, training materials, and other documentation.
• Assist MALPH leadership with monitoring project expenditures and grant requirements.
• Prepare periodic project updates and reports.
• Coordinate planning and implementation of a two-day residential Michigan Food Sanitarian Boot Camp for approximately 80 participants.
• Coordinate four regional specialized technical training sessions in partnership with NEHA and other technical experts.
• Work with facilities, trainers, speakers, and vendors to coordinate training logistics.
• Manage participant registration, confirmations, communications, materials, and follow-up.
• Assist with development of agendas, session descriptions, speaker information, and participant materials.
• Provide on-site coordination for major training activities and regional events.
• Work with environmental health subject-matter experts to organize training around the initiative's four competency areas:
• Foundational Food Law
• Inspection Practice
• Specialized Processing
• Advanced Professional Practice
• Help identify appropriate trainers, facilitators, and technical experts.
• Coordinate development of Michigan-specific case studies, exercises, tools, and other educational resources.
• Assist subject-matter experts in translating technical information into practical learning materials.
• Organize completed resources so they can be reused for future workforce development activities.
• Help identify opportunities to sustain and expand the curriculum beyond the initial project period.
• Develop and maintain strong working relationships with MALEHA, MDARD, NEHA, local health departments, and other environmental health partners.
